X-Box 360 or PS 3

I've posted this at WordForge and gotten good feed back but I wanted opinions from here as well.

I prefer FPS games like COD4 and HALO...so which should I get and why?

I'm not a big gamer, but I bought a PS3 several months ago 1) because I needed a new DVD player and PS3 also does Blu-Ray and 2) because I was intrigued by Little Big Planet.

I enjoy it, but I don't really know what else to tell you.

I have a 360, I love it.

Both machines get some great exclusives, I happen to prefer the 360's (Mass Effect, Gears of War) but the PS3 gets some good exclusive content as well.

Honestly, the two things I would consider would be the controllers. I personally would take a 360 controller over a PS controller any day of the goddamn week.

And what about BluRay? If you get a PS3 you suddenly have access to BluRay DVDs. It's something to consider.

If it's just about gaming, I can't speak for the PS3, I can only tell you that I am 100% satisfied with my Xbox 360 purchase.

Blue Ray isn't really a concern for me...I have a nice dvd player already.

The best(and most) FPSs are on 360. The on-line community is huge. The graphics are pretty tight. The Marketplace offers tons of stuff.

The PS3 has *taps lip reflectively* um, well, yeah.

You make the choice.

Ok that's a good point!!! There are so many models of the 360 to choose from, which doo you all recommend?

I own a 360 and adore it. Yes, it was plagued by horrible, idiotic cooling issues in the first half of its life, but we're on the Jasper motherboard sets now and the 360s have become dramatically more reliable.

I will, however, be purchasing a Blu-ray player which will come in the form of a PS3 (which is, by far, the best Blu-ray player you can buy).

And to be fair, I've played a lot of PS3 (friend of mine owns one) and it's a great console. The game selection had previously been a bit lacking but it is becoming far more robust now.

Obviously, if you're an FPS fan, you should go with a 360. There's a HUGE 360 FPS community. Hundreds of thousands of players on at any given time for the big titles (Halo 3, COD4/WAW, Gears).

As for model? Don't buy the arcade - that's useless - you need a hard drive. Otherwise, it doesn't matter. I'd just get the 60gig package they're offering now - the elite isn't necessary at all.

You're not going to get any objective responses on here.

But if you're willing to pay for online play, the 360 has a community full of FPS players if that sort of game is your top priority.

I recently got the 360 with the 60GB harddrive and I love it. I think it's a great gaming machine even though I don't even play online.

I think an important factor to consider at this time is the price. The 360 is a very, very good deal at current prices, I think. The PS3 is noticeably more expensive. I think (and I may be wrong here) that the games are also usually a little cheaper on XBOX. There's also a lot of budget titles to be had. So if you're conscious of the price, the 360 is probably the way to go.

Please don't lie about prices. If you want cheaper games, the Wii typically has new games at $50, while the PS3 and 360 are both at $60. Now naturally all video games drop in price after they've been out a while, so something that came out first on the 360 will obviously be cheaper first than the PS3 counterpart.

I've owned both consoles and honestly, it's pretty much the same experience. The difference boils down to what exclusives you want. And while conventional wisdom is that the online experience is better on Xbox Live than on PSN, again, it's pretty much the same experience. XBL's interface is definitely slicker.

EDIT TO ADD: One difference I forgot is that XBL cost you $50 per year per user and PSN is free.

But Amazon also runs deals about every other month that gives you 13 months for $38.99

Both are great systems, despite what some of the fanboys on either side say. I own a 360 primarily because I like the game library and the Xbox Live system, but I've played with friends PS3s enough to realize it's a great system as well. And the BlueRay player is a nice bonus for the PS3.

If you like FPSs, I'd probably give the 360 an edge. But take some time, look at the available games for both, play both if you can (any electronics store should have systems set up you can play) before you decide.

I don't own either yet but I plan on buying a 360 when I get some scratch. I've got friends with both systems and have spent quite a bit of time with them. There's nothing wrong with the PS3, I just like the 360's exclusives better and the online play seems more stable to me.
