A moron with an egg-beater can do 2k dps at 80.
Then 2/3 of the people who play are morons, and yet still manage to get through heroics and Naxx.
I certainly don't apply this to heroics, and to be honest I've never heard anyone give a shit about 10 man Naxx dps either. Welcome to raiding a year ago I guess. That being said I still run OS25 all the time (an entry level raid) and there are very, very rarely people under 2k dps. VERY rarely.
And, further, it depends. I've had HVH runs where I hit only 1.8k because the hunter the mage I ran with tore the place apart before I DoT anything up. Takes a shadow priest a good 10 to 15 seconds to hit the dps peak, y'know.
I'm an affliction warlock, I know a bit about taking a while to hit dps peak. As an aside I averaged 4.3k dps in HVH today (it was the daily) with a high of 6400 dps on Lavanthor.
But heroic dps means very little to me....
The expectation in a raid is that you've at least spent the time to get enough heroic gear to
contribute to the raid.
Whose expectation? I'm loathe to defend my old guild, but the one good thing they did was pretty much laugh in the face of such expectations. Yet we managed not to fuck up in heroics and cleared Naxx with ease. Last I checked they were well into rolling the keepers in Ulduar despite only a pair of stellar dps performers on their first team.
Right, and in my guild, six or ten months ago, if you wanted to raid Naxx 25 you had to have a full set of lvl 200 blues and purples which should allow anyone to easily do 2.5-3k dps all day long. Someone coming out of Naxx 10 fully geared should be able to do 3.5k+ dps,
easily. 4.5-5k out of Naxx 25.... And I guess it's a good thing your two stellar dps in Ulduar are pulling up the slack for the others who aren't, but it would be a lot easier on everyone if they didn't have to.
There are some bosses with hard or soft enrage timers that require a certain amount of dps.
And yet the place where people are going to start their raiding experience has exactly ONE dps race: Patchwerk. The last time I ran him with them I hit 4.1k, the next person hit 2.9k, and everyone else was between 1.2k and 2.1k. He still went down before we hit the enrage timer. 2 of the dps, a healer, and both of the tanks were new to the encounter.
The idea that there needs to be some sort of benchmark is pretty laughable, particularly when you're applying that to entry level raids and heroics as so many are currently doing.
Two of the three VoA bosses have what amount to dps barriers as well, and all kinds of people expect to get hauled through that with all kinds of raids resulting in people getting kicked after a couple of failed attempts. Then they call you a "gear snob" for kicking them.
I wouldn't be asking for dps checks for heroics,
that I think is pretty stupid if people on your server are doing so. They're
heroics, they're only supposed to be a challenge for people who don't have heroic gear yet, and they exist solely for the purpose of getting gear. And if they're already geared and just farming emblems or doing the daily heroic, then having one crappy dps or even a crappy healer (with a good tank) isn't an issue. We 3 or 4 man heroics these days to get more loot and they're
still easy. So yes, if people are asking for 3k dps just to get into a heroic or Naxx 10 they are retarded. However, 1.2k is frigging
horrible for
any level 80 dps. Sorry, but it's just true, that person can't play their class very well. Our
tanks were doing that much dps in Naxx 10. You can be in quest greens and sub level 80 blues and nothing else and do almost 2k dps.... some classes even more. You could do 1.2k dps at level 70 in tier 4 for god's sake, people in Sunwell gear were doing 2.5k!
