I do think they should keep the original encounter, there are a few "vanilla" guilds around that enjoy the old-school raids. On the whole, though, it's nice to see this piece of WoW history making a comeback. :techman:

i am not sure it's worth appeasing such a small portion of the player base if you can appease a much larger portion.

Sounds cool. My first time with Onyxia was soloing him, so it will be fun to raid him. My only concern is that it seems like like a skill dependent fight where fail by a few members will wipe the whole raid. I just went through that last Tuesday when my guild attempted to do the first boss in ToC. I raged-quit because of the fail in phase 3. The dual-joromunger I can understand as there is a lot going on, but when you fail to move to side when the Yeti charges you and wipe the raid when he enrages, well that just made me really frustrated. There is no excuse for easy mechanics like that. You get a big warning that he is charging you and a speed boost to move out of the way. And yet people where still get hit, constantly.

I have a level 80 Paladin, Rogue, Druid, Death Knight, Hunter and working on a Warlock, Priest and Mage. The Lock is at 60, the Priest and Mage are at 55. I'm engaged though she places WOW too so I guess it only partially blows the chart out of the water. :p

Ive just started playing WoW again after a prolongued absence - first started playing in the closed Beta then eventually stopped a few months before Burning Crusade hit.

So far im noticing a lot of changes. For a start, everyone on my server appears to be a complete Ass. When did it become the norm to insult everyone who's under lvl 80? Idiots like that used to be the minority not the majority, but now it seems everyone has decided to be a git.

The same seems to apply to Guilds now, where if you cant fit into their draconian raid schedules, youre not allowed to get involved. What happened to having a Guild to you know, play with friends and have a good time? Instead all anyone wants to know is what DPS you do or what level equipment you have rather than whether or not you are a tool.

At the moment im a Level 26 Draenai shaman on Daggerspine (EU servers), but im seriously looking at switching servers. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good EU server, or even a Daggerspine guild that will let me join because im a nice guy, rather than an uber-80-player-person?

^^ The obsession with progression is kind of amusing when you get right down to it. In an era when dps is expected to meet 2k dps in a PuG (which means everyone and their idiot mother now has Recount installed) checking out of the rat race seems like the logical step. I'm actually dropping out of raiding and switching servers specifically to get away from the concept.

i play on an RP server (Thorium Brotherhood (suggested by someone here when they wanted the trekbbs folks to play together))... i'm in a guild that is super casual and super nice. they schedule raids, i dont go. never hear anyone complain about it, or someone's dps or gear. just a bunch of nice people hanging out.

i dont know if that is just the RP server (i imagine you'll get a different set of folks going into those) or if it's just that the guild got lucky. i'm a casual player all the way, i'd want a casual guild. but if i were starting over, i have no idea how i'd figure out what guilds are casual...

best of luck to you though, wish i could help.

A moron with an egg-beater can do 2k dps at 80. The expectation in a raid is that you've at least spent the time to get enough heroic gear to contribute to the raid. There are some bosses with hard or soft enrage timers that require a certain amount of dps. The other day I was top dps in a Vault pug on the new Tier 9 boss, about 6800. Second through eighth was 4k+. The rest of the pugs were all shite, some of them not even doing 1500 dps, which is pretty crappy when you can do the same thing at level 70. The result was several wipes before we replaced half the dps in the raid because the soft enrage timer kept hitting us.

What Spiderpope needs to do is look for a levelling guild on his server. If he's only got a level 26 toon atm I'm not sure why anyone would give a shit about his dps or whether or not he can raid at specific times. So yeah, you don't want a raiding guild, you want a guild that can help you do old quests, run through some old dungeons, etc.

If you are interested in raiding when you get to 80, and you are not interested or able to do so at scheduled times each week (which is required by so many guilds for a number of reasons I'll save for another post), may I recommend being on the most populated server you can so that you'll be able to pug on your own schedule. Don't be surprised if you don't get into the more popular raiding guilds though, there isn't much point in having you in the guild if you don't contribute to it.

As far as jerks in trade and general chat, I don't really remember a time when it wasn't that way. It's the internet and there are all kinds of immature kids and trolling jerks in the world. One thing there is far less tolerance for now than during original WoW is asking newb questions like "where is the X proff trainer", "how do I get to Undercity from Silvermoon", "what is the hit cap for X class", things like that. There is so much information readily available on the internet about every facet of the game that there is an expectation that people should do their own research instead of spending 10 minutes spamming trade with a question you could have Googled the answer for in 30 seconds.

So if you're one of those people, sorry, but you're going to get that kind of reaction. It's seen as lazy. If people are giving you specifically grief for any other reason, I don't know what that would be. If it's just a comment about chat behaviour in general, then yeah, people are dicks. Put the nastier and more prolific ones on ignore, you'll never play with them anyway.

Try the WoW recruiting forums and see if there are any guilds that suit your play-style.

I think its the RP server to be honest. You arent the first person ive heard say that if you want to avoid the offensive idiots, then the RP servers are the way to go.
I think i may try rolling a new character on one of the newer RP servers, and take a break from the Daggerspine woe's.

Also: When the feth did Stormwind get a harbour? Or for that matter, its King back?

Oh no, no. Im not one of those, even i get irritated by that. With the bad attitude, its more that when i have seen people making a legitimate request for help, they are "shouted" down by a bunch of higher levels. Which i dont think is appropriate. If someone asks me for help when im walking past, i will either help him or apologise and tell them im busy. I dont instantly tell them to STFU, which seems to be the popular response.

The attitude i have encountered on Daggerspine is basically if you arent level 80, you are worthless. As an aside, it does seem to be more predominant on the Alliance side. Horde seem a lot more laidback.

I'm on a few servers, only two with 80's and I avoid certain guilds to either pug with or even talk to because of their snobbery. I'm in a primary raiding guild, a casual raiding guild and a start up guild that's got barely enough people to do a heroic atm and none of them are assholes. We have the occasional jerk or snide commenter but they don't last in any of them.

There are also plenty of other guilds and members who are sick of the elitests, hardcores and "I'm better than you" players you run across. Usually the worst players IMO are those who take it too seriously and once you learn who they are you can ignore or avoid them most of the time.

Then 2/3 of the people who play are morons, and yet still manage to get through heroics and Naxx.

And, further, it depends. I've had HVH runs where I hit only 1.8k because the hunter the mage I ran with tore the place apart before I DoT anything up. Takes a shadow priest a good 10 to 15 seconds to hit the dps peak, y'know.

Whose expectation? I'm loathe to defend my old guild, but the one good thing they did was pretty much laugh in the face of such expectations. Yet we managed not to fuck up in heroics and cleared Naxx with ease. Last I checked they were well into rolling the keepers in Ulduar despite only a pair of stellar dps performers on their first team.

And yet the place where people are going to start their raiding experience has exactly ONE dps race: Patchwerk. The last time I ran him with them I hit 4.1k, the next person hit 2.9k, and everyone else was between 1.2k and 2.1k. He still went down before we hit the enrage timer. 2 of the dps, a healer, and both of the tanks were new to the encounter.

The idea that there needs to be some sort of benchmark is pretty laughable, particularly when you're applying that to entry level raids and heroics as so many are currently doing.

I certainly don't apply this to heroics, and to be honest I've never heard anyone give a shit about 10 man Naxx dps either. Welcome to raiding a year ago I guess. That being said I still run OS25 all the time (an entry level raid) and there are very, very rarely people under 2k dps. VERY rarely.

I'm an affliction warlock, I know a bit about taking a while to hit dps peak. As an aside I averaged 4.3k dps in HVH today (it was the daily) with a high of 6400 dps on Lavanthor.

But heroic dps means very little to me....

Right, and in my guild, six or ten months ago, if you wanted to raid Naxx 25 you had to have a full set of lvl 200 blues and purples which should allow anyone to easily do 2.5-3k dps all day long. Someone coming out of Naxx 10 fully geared should be able to do 3.5k+ dps, easily. 4.5-5k out of Naxx 25.... And I guess it's a good thing your two stellar dps in Ulduar are pulling up the slack for the others who aren't, but it would be a lot easier on everyone if they didn't have to.

Two of the three VoA bosses have what amount to dps barriers as well, and all kinds of people expect to get hauled through that with all kinds of raids resulting in people getting kicked after a couple of failed attempts. Then they call you a "gear snob" for kicking them.

I wouldn't be asking for dps checks for heroics, that I think is pretty stupid if people on your server are doing so. They're heroics, they're only supposed to be a challenge for people who don't have heroic gear yet, and they exist solely for the purpose of getting gear. And if they're already geared and just farming emblems or doing the daily heroic, then having one crappy dps or even a crappy healer (with a good tank) isn't an issue. We 3 or 4 man heroics these days to get more loot and they're still easy. So yes, if people are asking for 3k dps just to get into a heroic or Naxx 10 they are retarded. However, 1.2k is frigging horrible for any level 80 dps. Sorry, but it's just true, that person can't play their class very well. Our tanks were doing that much dps in Naxx 10. You can be in quest greens and sub level 80 blues and nothing else and do almost 2k dps.... some classes even more. You could do 1.2k dps at level 70 in tier 4 for god's sake, people in Sunwell gear were doing 2.5k!
