Would you watch a Titan series with Riker?

I would give it a try. Will Riker would be a positive rather than a negative, to me. Characters live as long as the writing is good.

That is a beautiful ship!

I think a Titan series would have alot of potential. Riker, I thought, was always an interesting character.

There's also a great deal of potential in exploring a post Dominion War Federation.

I'm thinking a show with a great deal of political tension within and without the Federation. If handled correctly it could be a very good series. Just keep Berman and Braga away from it.

which riker would we get? There is at least 3 different Rikers I can think of.
One of them is incredibly competent, brilliant, easygoing, and has a well functioning BS detector, has enormous charm and charisma, and, lots of
luck with women. The other two are apparently a cross between kirk and
a FAIL thread bomb, and then there is the vacuous Riker of most of the episodes in which hes just a back drop.

Sure, I'd give it a chance, and, so far I have watched as much as possible of all of the series even when I thought as a whole a given series was more or less ruining the franchise. (VOY, ENT and later seasons of DS9)

Is it my pick for the next series? no. I can think of fifty premises i would rather see explored first and half of them I'm not that fond of, Including the idea of a Sulu/ Excelsior premise.

That was one of my biggest complaints against the Titan books, Riker is not written as Riker. You can substitute Picard in the Captain role and it read exactly the same.

But, hey, how about a New Frontiers series?

Well, I've lately gone very sour on the Trek books including Titan and would hope they'd jettison most if not all that was set-up in the books and start fresh. I'm all for diversity, but the dinosaur-ish doc licking his chops to chomp some fresh, live meat and some of the other characters have to go. Bleh.

I think if the new film is a hit, there may be an animated ST TOS series, as modern ST always seems to ape Star Wars ("Clone Wars" new cartoon series this fall).

To paraphrase Joe Torre: "Trek is like pizza. When it's good, it's really good, and when it's bad ... it's still pretty good."

To be honest, I don't know. I'm not really a huge fan of R/T... and I guess a Titan series would have quite a bit of R/T in it. ;)
But, on the other hand, it would be Riker. Riker = TNG. TNG = my favorite show.

Which means... I'd probably give it a try.

This type of spin-off show could go two ways..it might be great, like Frasier, or it might be a disaster, like AfterMASH.
I think with new writers, new directors, and a more modern sensibility, it could work though.

I would love to see a Titan series, live-action or animated. Riker became a much better character as TNG went on, and now that he's a captain, we could see him in a new role having evolved even more as a leader. I would like to see it take place a dozen years or so post-NEM so he wouldn't need to wear a wig or dye his hair; Riker is a few years younger than Frakes, IIRC. I would want Deana there, too, but perhaps there is an opportunity for something new here. Perhaps she is killed off in some mission, maybe with the Romulans, and now Riker is grief-stricken, depressed, and vengeful. That doesn't always come out, though. I would also like to see Bashir as CMO as I can easily imagine Julian and Wil not always seeing eye to eye; it could make for good conflict. As for the rest of the crew, make them all brand new.

Frakes and LeVar Burton would do a great job as co-executive producers of TV Trek.

They would have to keep the reptilian CMO. It was fun reading about injured visitors (and crew) waking up in sickbay with a bipedal crocodilian-type creature bending over them.

Just the thought of seeing Jonathon Frakes lumber through yet another series of wooden performances (lumber...wooden...get it? ;) ) makes me feel faintly ill. The concept sounds interesting, and I would hate to reject anything sight unseen that involves Star Trek, but I honestly don't think I could bear it unless Frakes stayed behind the camera.

Have I mentioned that the Riker character isn't one of my favorites? But you probably gathered that. I don't think this was entirely Frakes' fault -- why are writers so fond of putting skirt-chasers into space? -- but he didn't help much, with his soap opera style of acting.

Just keep Berman and Braga away from it.
Just keep Moore away from it!

Moore is the one I 'd want on it!

As for the concept, I'd give the show a try, I'd like to see Riker's swan song from Trek NOT be TATV, not that Nemesis is that much of a step-up...

It all comes down to the writing and whether or not they go for interesting indepth stories that use the characters well, or make the ridiculously stupid mistakes that are Voyager Season 6 an Enterprise Season 2.

It's got a chance but for it to be quality, but it would need to be run properly.

If it were written and done as magnificently well as 3rd and 4th season TNG, yes, I would totally watch it.

If it were done like Voyager or ENT, or was nothing but another ship in the Dominion War, then no.

Well I'd give it a shot but if the storylines were not good then It'd take more than Riker, Troi, Ogawa and Tuvok to keep me watching. They'd have to include some more past charcters or maybe they could have B4.

If there were a "Titan" series, I really hope that they break away from the Berman model of "teaser/5 acts/technobabble solution" that we have seen for TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT, and instead go with a model that we have seen on shows like "Lost" and "Alias."

No way I would be a fan of watching re-set button episodes again week-after-week. And, real-character development this time for all of the characters, rather than just the Big Three.

Let's say the new movie does well and a series of movies last for a few years, would you watch an older Riker command a starship, with adventures more akin to STNG than other shows? It would have easily been 7-10 years at that point. I'm sure I'll miss the 24th century.

RAMA

If well written - yes. IMHO its kind of sad (not sas in a bad way but sad in a emotional way) that so many Trek fans best memories and hopes are based on what used to be, and charactors from the older series. I admit that I'm one of those. I'm constantly looking for that "magic" that I remember from TOS and TNG.
