Worst. Line. Ever.

Well, I was going to say Best of Both Worlds, but apparently it needs to be in essay format.
No need for an essay, but some manner of hint to inform us which line you disliked would be a help. ;)

Personally, I cringe at the line where Data doesn't recognize the cliche about the early bird catching the worm, and tells LaForge that he doesn't detect any crawling vermicular or avian lifeforms. It more than crosses the line between naivete and plain stupidity, which really stands out in an episode which otherwise displays some truly excellent character moments.

I agree. That was just painful.

In a similar vein, Data's 'It appears we will be required to ignite the midnight petroleum, sir' as a reinterpretation of 'burning the midnight oil'. Why would he take a human expression and use needlessly replace words with synonyms? Never mind that 'burn' and 'ignite' have distinctly different definitions (ignition being a small subset of the burning process).

Still, I guess that's not too different than Geordi's 'Leak? I'm not detecting any leak'.

TOS: Catspaw...
Kirk refering to the Macbeth witches...
Kirk: Opinion, Spock?
Spock: Very bad poetry, Captain.

LOL

I really liked that one!

One that makes me cringe is the woman from Venus being shaped like a penis poem that Picard interrupts Data in the middle of. So awkward.

Also, the modified version of rock a bye baby with "the shuttlecraft will fall" was freaking ridiculously bad (I think I have the line right).

Sorry for the doublepost, messed up multiquote. *facepalm*

This bashing of Data's befuddlement over metaphors saddens me. It made sense to me and I thought it was funny. How could he know what those metaphors meant? It was not essential information to be programmed into him. I didn't think his ignorance showed stupidity. It was amusing, cute, and endearing, in my opinion. :nyah:

I read a humor bit in Reader's Digest about Macbeth... a mother was listening to her kids playing at being the witches, and one of the little girls started chanting, "Double, double, toilet trouble..."

I really liked the Catspaw one too... I thought it was very cute and amusing.

And I second your second opinion, also. That was a really cringeworthy moment.

Wait, so you really liked "I'm with Starfleet. We don't lie"? Seriously????
This episode is actually one of the earliest Trek memories I have and honestly, the innocence of it really drew me in. If I saw it today however, I would cringe for sure.
