World Series baby!!!

When was the last time a team came from a 3-1 deficit to win the World Series? I think it was fairly recent.

What the hell was wrong with the refs last night, calling that one play safe (I think it was Jimmy Rollins, caught in the run-down between 3rd base and home) when even I could bloody well see he was out? :scream:

Yeah, the umps screwed up there (although so did Tampa, they could have had an easy double play and ended the damn inning without giving up a run). Still, they screwed up in the previous game to negate one of the best defensive plays I've ever seen that led to the Rays tying the game.

the umps have been off in series.

I saw that as making up for the blown call in Game 3 at first and the "strikeout, wait no I meant to appeal to first, keep batting" and the time Jimmy was hit by a pitch but wasn't given first. About time one went the Phils way.

I really wish the Rays would have pulled it out last night, and this series would go longer. It seems like with the excitement at the beginning, this is going to be an anti-climatic series. Still, if the Phils do pull it out they deserve it. Besides, Burrell and Rollins are Bay Area people and that's cool. The rays have nothing to hang their heads over though. They had a hell of a season and hay, it's not over yet. Hopefully they win tonight.

How can they possibly keep playing when it's raining this hard?

It's not really the rain, so much as it's the condition of the infield. Ironically, the Rays tied it up with some nice base-running in those same bad conditions. MLB is sighing hugely right now, that the Rays did tie it up. That way, if they decide to can the game altogether, neither team is out anything. Alidar , I bet you're right. Problem is that the weather forecast for tomorrow looks like it's no better. Maybe someone in the Philly area can give us an update on that?

The forcast is rain rain, and rain for tonight...with a possible break at 1 AM. Tomorrow will be even worse....not looking good.

I don't see how they can continue this game. For all the hard work that the grounds crew has put in, the base paths are a mess. It's to the point where I can see some serious ankle injuries occurring. Heck. Upton's slide into home plate was almsot a debacle due to the rain, He didn't even touvcht the plate until his left hand slid by. But that's not the problem I see. I really am concerned and anle will get filleted when soemone tries to plant and round a base or make a defensive stop.

yeah I am not one bit surprised they called it, its a shame it had to happen, to it HAD to happen.

It's a PR nightmare and patently unfair to one team or the other no matter what the officials do. If this were not a championship clinching game.... MAYBE things would be different, but I wouldn't count on it.

no way they should have called the game at any point of the night with a 2 - 1 scoreline, and have the winner of the world series decided like this.

I could only see that happening if it was something like 0 - 10 in the bottom of the 8, the home team winning.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to win a WS in a game cut short by rain. It's a bad situation. But still - the conditions were godawful for a while there, and they should have called it when the infield first turned into a giant mudbath instead of an inning and a half later. I mean, that's our best starter who now won't pitch tomorrow. And what happens if it isn't played tomorrow? Do we go to Tampa and come back to Philly later?

Game 5 will be continued in Philly conditions permitting. If needed, the subsequent games will be played in St. Petersberg the day after whenever this game is finished and if the Rays end up winning.

I'm glad none of the players got hurt- they should've called it earlier. Had it been a regular season game, I think it would have been called in the 4th. When it wasn't, I half expected it to be called after 5 1/2 innings. But that would've had too many folks (outside of Phliiy) up in arms.

The effect on Hamels is minimal, given that he'd been rather economic with his pitch count. But I'm with you in that I don't understand why it wasn't suspended earlier. As it turned out, they would not have played any more that night anyhow. The only thing I can think of is if they suspend it earlier, then the game is canceled completely, isn't it? And the game then has to be replayed in its entirety, doesn't it? Maybe it was a television thing, which would not surprise me given that all professional sports schedules are determined by TV and its needs.
