No moreso than it would be of me to hope the Rays win. I may be pulling for the Phillies, but I'd really love to see it go the full seven games. More likely to get ratings better than so many folks predicted.
and when would they play this 7 game? since Game 6 will be played when Game 7 should be played, from the POV of TV & everything like that, the series ending at Game 6 would be helpful.
IF there needs to be a game 7, there will be a game 7. It's that simple. "Helpful" .... I wouldn't cal it that. Convenient for some, perhaps. The need means they'll work it out. Selig had already said Monday night that the Series wouldn't be settled by a rain-shortened game. Each team would get the full complement of innings. If he takes that stance, then you have to believe that were this to go to a 3-3 tie, MLB would find a way to get that 7th game played. TV woudl make it work, because they know there would be a heightened interest
Fuckin' Phillies fans. Booing the commissioner as he's presenting the trophy AND booing the Rays as Mongtomery congratulates their season.
I was going to route Rays in this series, but when the games moved to Philly, the crowd sort of got to me, and I came around to the Philles. Those were 3 & 1/2 very intense innnings, baseball doesnt get any better than that.
Excellent job by the Phillies, so extreme congrats to them for a job well done. I have to admit that it's because of the drought between championships that got me to pull for this team. Plus, the Rays only being a 9 yr old organization ... with that young roster they're bound to be back some time soon. Charlie Manual deserves some special commendation for staying rather relaxed it seemed. I'm sure that translated to the Phillies players and was invaluable down the critical parts of the post season.
Congrats to the Phillies for their World Series win! They played a really GREAT GAME!! 10-11 actually, but we're just babies compared to our elders. I, and Tampa Bay are very proud of our Amazing Rays and hope for more great seasons like this one!! I just take to mean that the Phillies fans felt threatened that their World Series would have been just be another loss. I hope 1% of 1% of 1% of Phillies fans do calm down a bit because I read an article here about their bad conduct towards throwing and cursing at/near the Ray's player's families (including children).
To those of you who congratulated the Phils without taking shots at the Philadelphia fan base, thank you.
Shit, they go after the *families* now? What pricks. Edit: I guess they really have no shame after all: linky
Eh, that happens at any game. Try going to a Dolphins game, the fans are just as bad. I've always believed that if you pay to be there, you can root however you want. As long as no one is violent. I'd have booed Selig too! Anyways, Congrats to the Phillies! Great game and a great crowd tonight. You'd never have known that it was a 46 hour rain delay.
You know what, it doesn't matter. Say what you want, I'm in a great mood right now. The Phillies have won the World Series (I figure if I say and type that enough it'll actually sink in). I had a crazy night (not in a good way) and was stuck in a meeting I couldn't get out. When word reached me that it was the 9th inning, I got up and walked out. There was no way I could miss this. We kept it crazy and close until the end, but it seems that's how it has to be. It can never come easy in Philadelphia.
I see. So they pour beer on 9-year-old kids down in Miami too, do they? Throw food? Pursue family members into restrooms and bang on the doors? I thought all this shit went away with the 700 Level.
^ Believe me, I've seen worse fan behaviour when watching European soccer games. I guess you just have to be careful, and have a bravery comparable to Special OPS, to be a fan of the visiting team.
