World Series baby!!!

Eh, that happens at any game. Try going to a Dolphins game, the fans are just as bad.

I see. So they pour beer on 9-year-old kids down in Miami too, do they? Throw food? Pursue family members into restrooms and bang on the doors?

I thought all this shit went away with the 700 Level.

Yeah they're that bad. Screaming at kids. Picking fights. You name it, they do it.

Whatever, start another thread if you want, this one is for the World Series. Again, Congrats Phillies! :bolian:

Out of 45,000 people at the game you're bound to have some troublemakers, no matter what world champion city you happen to be in.

I admit I wanted the Rays to win so they could get their new ballpark and get the heck out of the Trop once and for all.

Oh well, maybe the mere fact that they *reached* the Series will be enough to get the city officials down there to remove their heads from their asses.

The Vet even had its own criminal court *and* jail cells, for this very reason. (Citizens Bank Park doesn't, but the Linc does...or did, anyway, for awhile after they built it)

Oh god, as someone who is in the city, stop bitching about the fans. They are fine. It happens everywhere, Phillies fans just get shit cause of their reputation.

AND GO PHILLIES!!!!

TIME TO PARTY!!!!

Oh yes, definitely time to party. Sadly, being an hour away, I probably won't be able to join in the fun tonight. In 1980, Jamie Moyer cut high school classes to watch the Phillies parade down broadstreet. I doubt I'll ever be pitching in a world series, but, like him, there's no way I could miss a parade. Maybe friday, this will actually sink in and I'll believe it.

Congrats, Philly. Would have rather see the Rays win (like was mentioned, the Trop has to go), but apparently they blew their load trying to get past the Red Sox, and Philly was clearly the better team at the end.

Suppose watching the city tear itself apart in celebration (over 25 years since any of their teams won ANYTHING) will be almost as much fun as them tearing it apart in frustration :p

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to the difference maker for the series? Philly's starting pitchers were pretty good, Hamels well deserving the MVP award imho.

Fuckin' Phillies fans. Booing the commissioner

Who deserves to get booed. Gary Bettman gets booed whenever he presents the Stanley Cup each year

AND booing the Rays as Mongtomery congratulates their season.

Not classy

Shit, they go after the *families* now? What pricks.

Edit: I guess they really have no shame after all: linky

Wherever you go there are going to be assholes. The news media highlights them, because who wants to read about the fans that were respectful and behaved? Don't get the broad brush out and paint all fans based on the actions of a very few.

Oh well, maybe the mere fact that they *reached* the Series will be enough to get the city officials down there to remove their heads from their asses.

The days of publicly funded stadiums are over.

Congratulations to the Phillies.

Not entirely true. I go to several braves games a year. I see my share of Red Sox, Cubs, Reds, Mets, Phillies, and Cardinals fans. There's never any incident as far as I'm aware of. Everyone is cordial and just there to watch a baseball game.

Just adding my congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies on a well deserved World Series victory.:):techman:
I really enjoyed this Series, with two evenly matched teams who never gave up. However, right from the off, I felt the Phillies had a wee bit too much for the Rays.

Also well done to the Tampa Bay Rays on an excellent season. Winning the AL East in front of the Red Sox & Yankees is in itself an awesome feat, and then to take the Pennant the way they did was amazing! Pity they just fell short.
But they have an excellent manager, and a good young team, so the future looks bright for Tampa Bay.

But once more, well done Phillies!

Even if you believe that (which I don't), it's not that simple: Linky

Specifically:

In addition to the $150 million Stuart Sternberg will provide, at least $70 million (or more, currently uncertain until a development deal is finalized) will come from the sale of Tropicana Field. $100 million will come from an extension of the one cent on the Pinellas County tourist development tax that was approved for Tropicana Field, which will be extended 25 to 30 years. $75 million will be redirected from the money the city of St. Petersburg currently pays on the debt owed for construction of Tropicana Field, with those payments extended 25 to 30 years; the debt on Tropicana Field will be assumed by the redevelopers, taking that burden off the city. The remaining $55 million will be from parking fee revenues, and guaranteed by Sternberg. Sternberg will pay any cost overruns.

I see no reason why each fo these tams won't be bacl again soon. Maybe even next season, depending on what happens in the off-season. Both are young and complete teams.

The Phillies are in a float right now with cameras taking pictures of people taking pictures of them. I guess they want to remember it too :D

I had a test and my professor made me take it (even though I had to walk past thousands of people and a couple of secret service agents to get to my classroom). So, sadly, I couldn't actually make it to the parade. Did you have fun?

Wherever you go there are going to be assholes.

Yeah, like this. And this.

Oh well...lest anyone accuse me of being bitter because the Rays lost, let me assure you, that's not true. Hell, I even rooted for the Phillies in the NLCS. And even though I would obviously have preferred a Rays win here, at least they can still celebrate - just because they lost the Series doesn't invalidate all they've done this season.

Rays' fans celebrate at rally
