World Series baby!!!

Since neither the Red Sox nor Yankees are in the World Series, does that mean they'll buy up every single free agent out there over the offseason?

Or maybe just the Yankees will and the Red Sox will cry how that's financially unfair.

Well seeing as how the Red Sox had the fourth largest payroll this year...behind the Yankees, Mets AND Tigers, one could say they would complain too. This stereotype that the Red Sox are just becoming the mini-Yankees is wrong, since there are other teams with larger payrolls.

GO PHILLIES!! (Yes I am bitter.)

The Red Sox aren't exactly paupers, either.

Word right now about the Yankees is that they want to go after Sabathia and Texeira. After Madonna gets finished with A-Rod, who knows if he'll be worth anything. :)

True, but they are just a bit more then spend spend spend.

the Yankees should do all they can to stop him from seeing her, it wont end well.

meanwhile Game 2, much more like I was expecting to see from the Rays in Game 1, but again Phillies proved they have some fight in them, and they arnt going to totally roll over & die, like lets say the 04 Cardinals & the 07 Rockies.

No, those teams were simply dominated by a better team. I think this WS is more evenly matched.

So what is everyone thinking about the two teams that are currently playing. Yeah their not the Red Sox or Yankees, but so freaking what.

I love that this series is now best of five. Whoever wins, preferably the rays, please make it go seven

These two teams demonstrated in Game #2 something that gets so overlooked: "small ball". They do the little things, the fundamentals very well. The home run is exciting and all, but to paraphrase Crash Davis they're "fascist".

All I know is the Phillies better start hitting with RISP, or this will be a quick series. They are I believe 1-28 with RISP....ew.

Hamels pitched a gem in game 1, so they didn't need much hitting, but it so easily coudl have gone the other way. One misplaced fast ball, and the game's tied. The Phillies "one big inning" served them alright leading up to this series, but they can't rely on it if they want to win the whole enchilada.

True. And the even more disturbing thing about the lack of clutch hitting, is the fact that when they have a runner at third with less then two outs, or a runner at second with no one out, they cannot seem to make a productive out. They always seem to get a popup or a strikeout. It seems everyone is trying to hit the longball in that situation, where all they need is a ball in the air or a base hit.

And that is precisely where Tampa's style of play becomes so effective. They have hti a goodly amount of home runs (Longoria had a 3 or 4 game strek in the post season didn't he?), but they almost seem to prefer that "small ball" approach. A squeeze play, or jsut hitting the ball into play... that's how they won last night. Then again they can do that with confidence because they're pitching (starters and pen) rarely lets them down.

Yeah. What happened to Howard this postseason. He's kind of reminding me of Bonds in 2002. So good in the regular season, but a nonfactor in the postseason.

I'd love to see the Phillies get a few more runs, but only if Tampa does as well. I have 3-7 on a W.S. number board, so a little more offense on both sides would be welcome.

Looking forward to Saturday's game- hope it doesn't get rained out.

I'm rooting for the Phillies. I would go with the Rays, but I'm in Pennsylvania, and feel like I have to support state pride. That, and my friend is for the Rays, so we're sort of at war for the moment.

More than understandable. Philly is starving for a sports championship of some kind.

I like the Inquirer's advice for visiting Rays fans. Pointers include:

1. Make sure your health insurance premiums are paid up
2. Pack heat
3. Do not wear Rays gear, assuming there is any Rays gear and, if there were, anyone would wear it.

Personally, if it keeps away visiting fans, they can believe we eat babies.

EDIT: Oh and Pats is better than Geno's.

I still have to check out Tony Lukes and Jims as well. They're all tourist traps, but some are less than others.
