Wonder Woman (2017)

She looks like a female lead in a Hollywood movie to me. How 'tough' someone looks is really up to the skill & desire of the director.

I think she looks great.

So are Amazons immune to mustard gas?

Relevancy? Calling out Gadot's service in defense of her being a warrior seems to be marking it as exceptional when it's not.

"Exceptional?" No. That has nothing to do with it. I'm not talking about other people; I'm talking about her. Her background as an individual includes working as a combat trainer for a military service. It stands to reason that you have to be physically capable in order to train other people to be fighters.

That is an interesting observation. Gal Gadot's casting certainly leaned in a strong, non-Western (as in American) visual direction, and that is a perfect fit for the character.
Maybe its just the accent, but she has a very Mediterranean vibe.

Yep, not just a soldier, but a combat trainer.

For the record, as a woman, her poster did not bother me. I don't know...I think it sent a vibe that to be feminine does not automatically equal weakness.

Assuming you meant "does not automatically equal weakness," I can see that. I suppose highlighting the breasts doesn't necessarily mean "Hey, fanboys, gawk at these," but could be a way of calling attention to the fact that the character is female, while also being strong and poised and confident.

Still, I think it could've been improved a bit if more of her face were shown, or if the angle were a bit more forward-facing or the lighting a bit different. I have seen a few women complain about the pose, while others have been fine with it. But I think the ratio of positive to negative reactions could've been improved with a few tweaks.

So all warriors look exactly alike? Since when?
I freely admit that my view has been skewed by the likes of Lynda Carter and Lucy Lawless, so seeing Gal Gadot has been a bit hard to take.

You do know Gadot was a trainer for the Israeli military, right?
No, I did not know that, but I think there might have been a better way of saying that, don't you?

With that in mind and having looked up what exactly a "combat trainer entailed" for her specifically (after all, not all combat training is created equal, I know from my experiences in the US Navy), I will say that my bias will be a bit easier to shake off.

I don't see a meaningful distinction there. All three women are the same height, within half an inch, and to me they seem pretty similar in build. None of them had big, bulging muscles in their trademark roles, especially not Carter. Maybe Gadot's a bit slimmer than the other two, but that's a function of bone structure, not physical strength.

This looks great. I don't know a lot about the character beyond the basics but I enjoyed her in BvS and I'm a sucker for period superhero movies. However, this looked even better than I'd hoped for. Gadot, as with BvS, seems a perfect fit and Pine is as charming as usual. The action stuff looks great and I was pleased to hear her theme music from BvS make a return.

As with the Justice League trailer, it does seem that DC have taken the criticisms of their last 2 outings on board and lightened up quite a bit. The Lucy Davis clips reminded me of the MCU as did Pine's response to the Zeus line.

The single most exciting film trailer I have seen since Fellowship of the Ring.

Love the vibrancy, the grandeur, the humour of it.

Having only read the recent Brian Azzarello run, I have little or no experience or expectations for this film, but in these few minutes it appears that Jenkins has a true eye for spectacle, and without running to the current trend of close-into-the-action filming (Grrr Justin Lin).

My only concern was the use of slow-mo, which I have never been a great fan of, but we shall see how much it is used and how well it is used.

Any concerns about Jenkins control of big action scenes has been obliterated. With Monster and the pilot to The Killing I know she can handle drama and her episode of Arrested Development is a mini classic, so, yeah, with this cast, the script is going to have to be an utter dud.

I hope Geoff Johns and Allan Heinberg brought their A-game.

Hugo - <insert amazing WW theme in here>

Pine seems like a deep thinker from interview I've seen on Jimmy Fallon and here

Not that I am aware of, just as part of the JLA team.

Never read a thing by him, so I have no idea if I like his style of writing. But as the head honcho for DCEU now, a lot rests on his shoulders, with his name all over this and likely everything else coming out soon (story credit on Aquaman, allegedly co-writing an upcoming solo Batfleck flick).

Cross fingers and see

Hugo - :ouch:

Well I guess when every post I make gets a word specially highlighted and questioned I should quit...

EDIT: sorry, feeling pissy today...

Pretty sure that's just where your eye went, friend.
Pretty sure he's not the only one who noticed it.
But I think the whole poster design is a bit clumsy. No good reason not to show her face, and the tagline is weak.

Impressive trailer though.

Ooh, good catch. By Zeus, I think you nailed it.
She was also a leader of an international terrorist organization so that would make for a topical villain. However, looking through her villains, Dr Poison also used masks and dressed in green. She worked for the Nazis, too, so she could be transplanted back into WW1 to work for the Germans with the use of chemical warfare and all quite easily.

The light source and the position of her body is why her face is in shadows. Makes sense to me.
