Wonder Woman (2017)

Loved the new trailer. I think it might be the best DC trailer I have seen yet and I liked the first one for Suicide Squad.

I like it. The feminist aspects (I know that's a loaded word these days, hope this doesn't come off wrong) seems to be done well, it's there and with humor but not too preachy. Wonder Woman looks good in action too which speaks for itself and the glowing effect is interesting.

I hope the setting doesn't turn anyone away but Captain America did well so that shouldn't be a problem. It would be good to have a female superhero movie that is both done right and a financial success. This one doesn't seem to have any of the pitfalls of other attempts and is smart to play to the material instead of trying to do its own thing.

You know, it dawns on me that I have yet to hear anything about the who the villain in the movie is, nothing about anyone being cast as the Cheetah or Doctor Psycho or Circe or whomever? Is she just fighting the Kaiser's army in the new movie?

(There's a glimpse of a half-faced woman in the trailer, but I'm not sure if she's supposed to be some old comic-book character or not.)

I was thinking the same thing. We just saw Wonder Woman fighting Germans. I'm sure there is some supernatural or other worldly threat, but I was thinking how interesting it would be if for once there wasn't.

"What I do is not up to you." Love it.

And the Golden Lasso effect looks cool, too.

And there's humor, too! :)

I liked all those things. I liked Etta a lot too.

I don't think it's seen as all that "loaded" these days. If anything, what I see these days is more and more cases of feminists proudly reclaiming the word and rejecting the notion that there's anything wrong with it. With Wonder Woman and the Ghostbusters taking the movies by storm, Supergirl and Jessica Jones thriving on TV, and a woman having good odds of becoming the next US president, I'd say we're way past the point where feminism needs to be talked about in hushed or apologetic tones.

This just seems like an over-reaction -- kinda like the anti-female Ghostbusters movement... only from the left. This time, being-hypersensitive to what seems like an emphasis on breasts/sexuality, where for many, that is not necessarily so

It is an overreaction. Anyone understanding the symbolism of the costume and the poster cannot possibly find some imaginary "offense" in this, but....

Oh, and I'm betting someone will start yelling because WW says:

"I was brought to life by Zeus."

Yes, Zeus.

I think sometimes it's interpreted to be militant or to be pushing for women to dominate rather than advocating for equality. I was just trying to make clear I didn't mean it as such. They may be trying to reclaim it but saying "feminist/m" just feels like it has baggage associated with it. I suppose we have good ol' Rush to thank for giving us "feminazis".

And that is exactly what people like him wanted -- to convince people that a movement about fighting for equality was about fighting for superiority, and thereby to discredit it. It's no different from the people today saying that Black Lives Matter is racist or about black supremacy. Or the people here in Cincinnati who once defeated an ordinance banning housing discrimination for LGBT people by claiming it was about "special rights" rather than equal rights. People who are used to being the dominant class often see equality as an injustice against themselves.

Nicely put--and on target.

And an Amazon in that time frame is inevitable going to run into some old-school sexism and male chauvinism--and have to push back against it.

In fact, I would be surprised if they set the movie in this era in order to deliberately evoke the suffragette movement and its challenge to "Man's World."

I don't use the word niggardly in Detroit, I don't say I feel gay when I feel happy, I don't say something is queer when it's strange, so sometimes I couch words I don't use often like feminism so people know I'm not attacking it. :)

I thought that the trailer was really good. Wonder Woman was the best part of BvS, and it looks like her movie could be very good. I like how even during darker scenes and in battle her costume kept its color (meaning they didn't desaturate it). It turns out color does exist in the DCEU  I'm very exciting for the movie.

Oh, that's an interesting thought. Although it would work just as well in the classic WWII setting with Rosie the Riveter and all that.

For myself, I would consider it a compliment to be called a feminist. It's what I aspire to be. It's weird to me that anyone could think it had a negative connotation. It's like when people try to use "social justice warrior" as an insult. Why in the world would anyone see that as anything less than an awesome way to be characterized? And if anyone uses "social justice warrior" as a negative, aren't they basically just confessing that they're against justice? In which case, it pretty much backfires as an attack.

Or like that time a few years back on on the old Psi Phi message board, where there was this troll who occasionally impersonated me and had me come out as gay on the board. It was weird, because apparently the troll was trying to defame or insult me, but why in the world would I be offended by that? I'm not gay, but I'm not blond either, and posting in my name to say "I am blond" would be a pretty pointless way of attacking me.

So the mindset of people like this that certain terms are insulting is something that only makes sense within the confines of their own very narrow minds. Don't worry about it.

Great trailer and I'm fairly excited to watch this movie. I'm still not quite keen on Gal Galbot as Wonder Woman simply because doesn't look like a warrior, but she did well with what little she had to work with in Batman v. Superman.

I enjoyed our introduction to Etta Candy. She really made me smile.
I can't believe that's Lucy Davis. I barely recognize her and only knew who she was when I looked up who played the character.

Now that was amazing. I seriously cannot remember the last time I saw a trailer and got really excited to see a film. I've watched this trailer several times now, and I'm still amazed. Love the detail, the production values, the magic lasso, the WW1 setting and WW kicking ass!

Easily my most anticipated film of next year!
