Wonder Woman 2 Anticipation Thread

I'll take more period pieces over consistency with that one line. Having her movies take place in different past eras is a nice way to make them feel a bit more unique from other superhero movies. I'm a tiny bit disappointed they decided to go so close to the modern day with this, I would rather have seen them do a smaller time jump to the '20s or maybe even '60s.

While I wouldn't have minded a dozen movies jumping a decade at a time, I think realistically we can expect a trilogy, and I would very much like to see a present day Wonder Woman movie :p

You know I wonder if they will bring up things such as her not doing anything about Hitler,Vietnam the Korea War etc. Lots of bad things happened between WW I and 1984 and I wonder if her playing things low key will be part of the plot. I can easy see some Luke Skywalker issues come up such as him hiding out as the First Order gets created if they just say she did nothing because she was sad.

Eh, fake issues. Why doesn't Superman play god and fix the world's problems? Why does a multi-billionaire spend so much time dressed as a flying rat beating up thugs in alleys when he could do far more good just as Bruce Wayne? It's a comic book movie for entertainment not philosophical drivel for navel gazers.

This whole 80’s setting seems unnecessary. Just set it after JL.
Eh, nothing is necessary except that the film be entertaining.

There is that plot point that she was supposed to be sulking for a 100 years, but I suppose you’re right.

They already said that in hindsight it was a bad idea to have Diana not be doing anything for 100 years and they were going to ignore it.

The bigger problem is how in BvS and JL she didn't show any of the Deus Ex Machina powers she had in the fight with Ares. Perhaps WW84 will explain how she lost those powers.

Maybe you answered your own question, maybe those were powers she just had against Ares?

Doesn't make sense. Why use them only against him? That forcefield she had that disintegrated anything that hit it (when he was throwing shrapnel at her) would've come in real handy against Steppenwolfs' Axe and her energy redirecting would've been good against Doomsdays' energy attack.

The whole "Wonder Woman hadn't done anything in a hundred years" thing is hardly the first nor the biggest superhero movie retcon.

The first Iron Man movie established SHIELD as a new organization, and yet Iron Man 2 established that it was founded by Stark's long dead father.

The first X-Men movie established that Xavier met Magneto when he was 17, and yet First Class establishes that they didn't meet until after Xavier graduated college.

Not really a big deal.

What I'm asking is: what if she lost those extra powers after her purpose as the killer of Ares had been fulfilled? I'm not saying that's what happened, but I am saying that would be a reason.

I don’t see her not doing anything for a 100 years that big of a deal. For her that’s nothing.
I just think after JL would be a more exciting prospect. I assume Bruce would be getting Watchtower constructed.

I think one of the biggest and best reasons to have it in the past is not to address what Bruce and the rest of the League are up too. This is a sequel to Wonder Woman which was set in World War I. Not a sequel to Justice League. Aquaman is taking that approach and apparently there will be no appearances of the rest of the League. Leading to fan complaints of their absence before the movie even is out.

Patty Jenkins can continue her own story and take advantage of the historical themes. No need to follow up Diana being one of many costume heroes. That is still decades in the future. Diana’s interactions with the League is best suited for an actual Justice League sequel.

I wonder if maybe she has spent all this time sort of doing the "Batman" thing and fighting low level criminals and helping the average person. Or maybe she has helped in ways we don't notice. For example what if Hitler would have won WWII but she did something that prevented it only it was never recorded in the history books. She has basically been "Forrest Gumping" her way through those years making a difference only nobody noticed.

Yes.

This brings up a question that only long-time comic readers can answer. Has the character ever wore a mask over the years?. As far as I known she and Superman seem to be the only non-hooded or masked DC heros I can think of. Of course they do wear glasses when they are doing the "average human" look.

Well, with all the Superboys, Wonder Girls and Supergirl and there's also Aquaman, Mera, Black Canary, Vixen, Zatanna, Starfire... and I'm sure there's a few more.
