With no Space Seed, how can there be a "Khan Movie"?

No, I'm not kidding - and if you do not understand what I mean then I cannot help you, I've said it as clearly as I am able.

Okay, I'll try: If a character appears on screen and his name is "KHAN", I consider it a remake. Clear enough?

But you didn't answer his question. Do you consider The Dark Knight a remake of Batman (1989) just because they both feature Batman vs. the Joker? And was Batman (1989) a remake of the even older Batman movie with Cesar Romero as the Joker?

Criminy, I forgot how it is always the season of the witch, online.

Remake, rehash, retread or reboot, even. Was it really so difficult to discern what I meant?

Perhaps if you actually responded to other people's points, insteading of questioning their comprehension skills? :)

(Although, again, this is all academic since there's no reason to believe Khan is in the movie.)

IMDB is listing Cumberbatch as Kahn.

IMDB is not a reliable source where upcoming movies are concerned. It's best used to check the credits of movies that have already been released, but is iffy when it comes to movies that are still in production.

And I hope they're citing him as Khan, not "Kahn."

(Nothing personal. It's amazing how often that name gets misspelled. It's "Khan" as in Genghis Khan or Kublai Khan. "Kahn" sounds like he runs a deli or something.)

They're reinventing the character. It will no longer be Khan Noonien Singh, but rather Wilford Nicholas Fenroy Kahn III, Esq,. Ph.D., DDT, TNT.

Could Khan be a subplot in the new film ? It would be a nice way to set up a future movie whilst putting a spin on the original and still having fresh main story.

Just like Wikipedia, any idiot can submit to IMDb. I've done it myself in the past. What?

For the build-up to "Nemesis", some wacky fan got onto IMDb and listed every Romulan and actor ever to appear in TOS, TNG and DS9, including those played by Joanne Linville (TOS Female Romulan Commander) and Denise Crosby as Sela. Those names stayed there until a final casting sheet became available.

The same thing happened with the Underworld movies. The early IMDB listings often included characters from the previous films that I knew for a fact wouldn't be returning in the sequels. Writing novelizations, one learns quickly to take the IMDB listings with a grain of salt.

Speculation, rumor-mongering, and a fair amount of wishful thinking can sometimes infiltrate the IMDB listings--at least until the movie is actually released.

Idz not nice.

Don't care about Khan one bit. What was done is done and they made a great movie with Khan. Make it fresh with a completely different villain or make a new race to go toe to toe with Kirk and Crew. I'd personally prefer a story where Klingons, Romulans and the Gorn have formed an alliance of sorts to take on the Federation. Fear from the fact that one of the Feds, Kirk, defeated a bloody cityship from the future and they attack Feds/Earth full force. Kirk and Co. has to find a way to defeat the threat, and please bring some extra ships/crew that aren't incompetent fools this time around?!

Must resist the urge to add "and Jerry Mathers as The Beaver" to cast list.

Why do so few people here realize how bad of an idea making a Khan movie is? Should the Star Trek franchise spend the next three decades just bringing back old characters and plot lines? Voyager, Enterprise, and Nemesis already tried that, and they all proved one thing: trying to give fans what is perceived they want to see creates bland product and horrible art. Why not give the audience something new, surprising, original, thought-provoking?

God forbid this new movie do something the franchise has never done before. God forbid it try a new style, or a new storytelling trope, or a new kind of character, or a new kind of dilemma. God forbid it try to be thoughtful character-driven science fiction that forces us to think. God forbid it surprise us and give us something we never would have expected, but something nonetheless brilliant.

Sigh. I miss Star Trek from the 80's and 90's.

The writers said they were going to stick in the Botany Bay at the end of the previous movie's credits. Some big entertainment websites have already reported that Khan is the next Villain. I think there's a good chance it is.
