Winona Ryder is Amanda

It can't be a very large role. Maybe it's a lark for her. Is she a Trek fan? Suppose she always wanted to do something with Abrams (however small)?

As far as age goes, Lenard was born in 1924 and Nimoy in 1931. Only a seven year difference. Heck, Lenard was fourteen years younger than Wyatt.

Okay, the casting for this movie has struck me as just plain weird somehow. I'm not saying it's going to be bad, per se, but everything seems just so completely out of left field.

Karl Urban as McCoy?
Simon Pegg as Scotty?
Bruce Greenwood as Pike?
And now the biggest name of them all so far, Winona Ryder, as Amanda?

Didn't see any of those coming, frankly. Hopefully the bizarrity (roll with it) of this cast is a sign that Abrams is some sort of genius.

We'll find out in about 13.5 months, I guess.

The woman is a nut but she's a good actress. Definitely a surprise choice. I guess she'll be featured in a flashback. Bruce Greenwood might not have been that big a name but she definitely is.

Cheers! Too bad she won't be in the movie for long. Don't think Amanda will be anymore than a minor character. You know I would rather see her as some random new character like Lt. Valeris in Trek VI.

I could see Winona as a Vulcan, she has a certain face that would lend itself well to the unemotional look. Of course, Amanda isn't a VUlcan, but still.

We know Sarek was married at least once before. Spock has a half-brother, as STV so laboriously explains.

This is awesome news. I love Winona Ryder and I think she will be superb as Amanda Grayson.
