Windows 10....one year later....disscussion, thoughts.

Cool. It went through ok on my end so far too. Just going to double check to make sure that it didn't change any settings on my laptop.
Some settings may have been changed. I had to change back a few settings, like how Cortana was being used. Just minor things, though. Also, I finally got the mail app icon unpinned after several hours where it stubbornly refused. Weird.

I've got the Creators Update on three of my five PCs now - the oldest test laptop, my personal laptop and my work-use Chinese Surface clone. All smooth so far, easier than the Anniversary Update.

I'll wait a whole before doing the other two. One of the remaining units is my wife's laptop, which choked on the Ann.Up. because of some updated drivers being incompatible, causing sleep and shutdown issues. Identifying and rolling back the drivers solved the issues, but IMO this is the sort of thing that shouldn't be an issue in the first place. I'll wait until her laptop prompts her for the Creators Update and do it with a close eye. he final one is my home desktop, which I use a fraction as much as I used to. I'll get round to it when asked. :P

I am not going to do the creators update till we are forced to do such an update. Currently the home screen in Windows Update just has a link and a suggestion to get it.

What's the point in getting it anyway, is there any real difference?

Oh, it's mandatory. You should probably see it update for you in the next week or so.

Drivers have been a headache when it comes to Windows from the get go given there are some many of the them. Compounding that is when manufactures can't be bothered releasing updated drivers.

They can also be a security problem which is why Microsoft changed the security model vis a vis device drivers in recent years compounding the problem when the device manufacturers don't both to keep up.

Ah I'll have to double check on that. I still hate Cortana. Sweet.

I love this.

That's strange too since I'm on an admin account and not a local one.

Just updated to the creators pack myself, all seems ok and running fine, can't say I've noticed any difference other than Media Player has gone (again) which is annoying, I like Media Player.

I noticed that when this fired up and I was able to easily unpin it.

I still have Windows Media Player on my installation. I hope it doesn't go away, because no other media player program works nearly as well for me. They're all either bloated, or lock their really good features behind pay walls.

Yeah, it was weird for a bit. Still not sure what that was all about.

What version of 10 do you have? Checking on the Microsoft website, it says mine isn't compatible and I have the Pro N 64bit version. (Not that it really should make a difference)

It does sound strange, I don't really pay attention to the app for my email given I have my phone near me most of the time and it pings when I get a new one so I wasn't looking forward to having that on the taskbar.

I'm using Windows 10 Home 64 bit. If you're using an "N" or "KN" version of WIndows 10, it doesn't come with media packs. You have to download a separate media pack.

That's the U.S. version, above, so I don't know if it will work with yours.

Yeah, I don't really use the email app, either. I'm used to web based email access at this point. Never liked email apps too much.

I have Win 10 home 64 bit and still have Media Player. It's still there as a feature but to get to it you will have to look in the Program Filesx86 folder. Funny because for me when I finished my windows installation it wasn't in the start menu list and I had to go find it to use it.

even VLC?

VLC is good for playing videos, but I like having a library for music.
I just use itunes (annoyances aside -- I have to replace a lot of my library since moving up to 10 and I have to save up for the pro version of Sharepod). I miss being able to use Windows Music Player, but VLC works ok for movies and what not.
