Will you have the Swine Flu shot?

Will you be having the Swine Flu shot

I had my regular seasonal flu jab today...

... but like you, I'm waiting until there's proof that the swine jab isn't causing problems before committing to getting it. Considering how truncated its development has been compared to regular flu shots, I think a little caution is indicated. I'll probably give one of the local public health doctors a call to discuss it first too.

I fall into a high risk group given my job, but sod it, I'm not being the guinea pig on this one.
Yeah, the GBS link is of some concern (although the current H1N1 vaccine is prepared differently from the true swine flu vaccines of old) but I admit my interest in ill effects is more of an academic one at this point. One bedside manner demerit for me, I guess.

We had the Secretary of State for Health and the Chief Medical Officer both filling the airwaves today, preaching to us health professionals to take up the swine flu jab as soon as possible.

When those two stooges agree on something, I know I'm right to wait this one out a little...
...and stock up on a supply of N95 face masks. I threw one out today after using it and got reprimanded for my insolence.

I've never had a flu shot and I never will... at least till old age or some other health issue that would make the flu life threatening.

I might get it. I'm feeling quite healthy at the moment, but there is a risk with my weight. I know I can get with the free offer from the Australian government.

I believe that the Australian government has purchased 21 million doses - enough for every single Australian. Now not all those will be used, as some people cannot or will choose not to be immunised, but I believe that the government plan to send at least 10% of the doses to East Timor, Papua New Guinea and some of the Pacific Islands.

I saw something on the news recently about a woman who got a swine flu shot that triggered an irreversible neurological disorder. It's the weirdest thing. She can run normally and walk backwards normally but when she tries to walk forward, she starts spasming in ways that make her look like she is dancing badly. It's really tragic to watch. They say that the odds of that happening are one in a million and were related to a rare genetic predisposition. Still, I'd rather die from the flu than live with that condition.

Yeh I already posted links about that in my last post which was the third post above yours on this very page. aka post 84.

On another note has anyone been keeping tabs on the news in Sweden? only a week into giving the swine flu jabs and supposedly over 190 people have suffered consequences and several people have died.
Is there anyone here from Sweden who can confirm this? there could be a news report mis-translation but who knows.

From what I have read the first people who received the swine flu injection in Sweden were those people who were seriously ill in hospital (cancer patient, those with serious heart conditions). It isn't surprising that some have died (as they were seriously ill) but I don't think it has been proven that they died because they received the fly injection rather than died of the serious illness they were suffering from.

It *wasn't* an H1N1 flu shot, it was a regular seasonal flu shot.

Where did I say it was the Swine Flu shot?? I'm talking about vaccinations in general. The news article Borgified Corpse was talking about was still the one I'd posted links about in a previous post.
Borgified Corpse said it was the swine flu shot not me so take it up with them.

I'm not sure what the problem is? I quoted exactly so it was obvious who said what...

Well you mistakenly quoted me as well as the Borgified Corpse. By quoting me and then replying it seemed your post was aimed at me and not them. There is no problem, I'm simply pointing it out.

My mom and I are diabetic, so we will be getting the seasonal flu shot.
As of this morning, I will be signing up my mom and myself to get the H1N1 flu shot, because we got a call from our cousin, and her two children (4 and 7) have both contracted H1N1. :(

be sure to let us know if you have any ill effects to the swine flu vaccine at least up to a week after taking it. I'd be interested to know how it all goes for ya.

I had the swine flu shot just over 8 days ago. There has been a flare up of my arthritis but I am not sure if that is because the vaccine caused my immune system to drop (because my body was busy producing flu antibodies) or whether the flareup is due to the changeable weather we have been having. My legs are quite a bit worse than they usually are, as is my shoulder. My thumbs were quite sore before I had the injection and are about the same now.

There has been no change to my asthma.
