Will you have the Swine Flu shot?

Will you be having the Swine Flu shot

Da Boss, he just say he put da hit out on the Swine Flu. Bitch is gonna be wasted.

^ Heh.

I won't be having it.

In my mind, with a completely new vaccine, there hasn't been time to establish if there are any long term negative effects. I'd rather let other people be the guinea pigs.

You know that they make a new vaccine for seasonal flu every year, right?

I will probably get the shot as I'm in an at-risk population, but I want to wait a few weeks to see if there's a giant spike in reported cases of Guillan-Barre Syndrome.

I had my regular seasonal flu jab today...

... but like you, I'm waiting until there's proof that the swine jab isn't causing problems before committing to getting it. Considering how truncated its development has been compared to regular flu shots, I think a little caution is indicated. I'll probably give one of the local public health doctors a call to discuss it first too.

I fall into a high risk group given my job, but sod it, I'm not being the guinea pig on this one.

Based on strains researchers and analysts *THINK* will be prevalent during the flu season. And I laugh every year when they're off the mark.

No. I probably won't be getting it because I got it when I was in college(or at least the flu shot) and then three hours later I was sick as a dog with a high fever..and it was a side effect of the damn shot so I said eff that!

No. I'm not a health care worker and I don't have any underlying medical conditions that make me high risk. If I had a child, I'd probably vaccinate him. Otherwise, it's not right to take a shot if there's only a limited supply. No need to put thimerosol in my body. Good hand washing habits and plenty of hand sanitizer and Lysol around the office seems to protect everyone just fine. This is no more dangerous than regular flu. It's been totally exaggerated by the media. SARS was going to kill everyone, too, only it didn't.

I'm not planning on it... I've been skipping the regular flu shots for years too.

Yeah, the GBS link is of some concern (although the current H1N1 vaccine is prepared differently from the true swine flu vaccines of old) but I admit my interest in ill effects is more of an academic one at this point. One bedside manner demerit for me, I guess.

One of the few times I'm glad I live in practically the middle of nowhere. There's little to no chance of me getting it so I don't need a shot.

I might have it. After that time I had flu four times in a winter (with the correlated loss of work time), I started getting my seasonal flu shots and I never had reason to regret it (besides, working for the university, I have it for free). Not sure if I'm having the swine flu shot this year, I will talk about it with my physician. However, I'm not worried about it. Just another flu.

I'll be having it, already had a letter from the doctor saying they'll contact me with an appointment when they've got the vaccine in.

I'm going to get the H1N1 and the regular flu shots I hate getting sick and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

We had the Secretary of State for Health and the Chief Medical Officer both filling the airwaves today, preaching to us health professionals to take up the swine flu jab as soon as possible.

When those two stooges agree on something, I know I'm right to wait this one out a little...

Nope! I got the normal flu shot in Sept and caught the flu a week later.
Because the flu shot isn't fully effective until a few weeks after you get it while your body builds antibodies.

There's some wisdom to those who say that th H1N1 shots will be too late to help a lot of people but I don't have any objection to helping my immune system along.

No.

I received the regular flu vaccine (for the first time in my life) a couple weeks ago because the hospital system I work for required all staff to either get vaccinated, or wear a surgical mask all shift. Since I have no desire to smell my own breath for 12-13 hours at a time, I got the shot. But they've made no such requirement for the H1N1.

For the life of me I can't figure out why they're doing that other than to advertise that they have a vaccinated staff (confirmed by the silly tag they make us hang off our name badges that say "I'm vaccinated against the flu because I care about you!"). If any patient is exhibiting flu-like symptoms, they are put in isolation (all staff wear PPE while in the room). And if a staff member is sick, they shouldn't be at work. So I can't figure out who is protected who by getting us vaccinated against our will.

In any case, I think the flu shot is just a scam. It's such a rapidly mutating virus that any vaccine is just gonna be a crap shoot.

OMFG. Where's the puking smilie when you need it?

I would refuse to wear saccharine shite like that.

Yes, I will get it if I can. I'm a somewhat high-risk patient. I'm getting the regular flu shot tomorrow.
