I will not be getting the shot because I already had swine flu a couple of months ago. Been there, done that!

I'll get it if becomes available locally. I could get it free through the VA now but I would have to drive 50 miles to get it. It's not so much the distance but the fact that it's down-town Miami. I'm more afraid of Miami than H1N1.

No, they told me not to come in, but swine flu has been running rampant throughout my town, many many people I come in contact with on a daily basis have had it. Normally I don't get the flu at all so the fact that swine flu is so predominant in my town and that I actually got it is a strong indication to me. Also, it had many of the same specific symptoms and was the worst flu I've ever had.

I've never had the flu, nor have I ever had a flu shot. I do not have any underlying conditions that make the flu particularly dangerous, nor am I around people who do. I do have a severe allergy to eggs, which are used to culture the inactive virus in vaccine preparation, that makes the shot itself potentially very dangerous for me as it can lead to anaphylaxis. On the other hand, I have ample sick days and will use them gladly to avoid infecting anyone else. So, no, I will not be getting the shot.

I personally was not tested but both of my kids tested positive for it within the last two weeks. When I called my doctor's office and described my symptoms and explained that my kids had it, the nurse said not to even bother coming in.

No, I won't be getting this shot, nor will I allow it to be given to my children. I am very wary of the lack of testing that has been done for this vaccine. We are taking extra precautions in the germ-killing department, though.

None of them are. Every article I've read about someone who died was due to "other factors".

Keep rationalizing. Basically, if you choose not to get it- fine. Don't make things up. "Other factors" could be something you don't even know you have.

So, don't get the shot and don't let your children have it. Fine, spread the flu around and more people will have it.

I have to have the shot because I'm a nurse in a hospital and if I decline the shot, or the regular flu shot, then I have to write them a letter explaining why. I don't care either way for my own protection, but I'll get it if it will help protect the sick people I'm supposed to be taking care of. It'll be another month until they get the shipment, tho. I'm not rationalizing, I'm stating what I've read. Don't blame me if you fall for the hype. Common sense dictates that if you want to prevent the spread of germs, wash your hands thoroughly with hot water and use soap and cough into a Kleenex or in your arm. Are you even cognizant of all of the reporting this past spring on H1N1? Let me refresh your memory:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- I remember the massive Swine Flu hysteria of the 1970's that didn't amount to shit. Like every conspiracy, there's a certain crowd out there who are itching for a pandemic because they just want to revel (in their own twisted way) in people's death. The one advantage we have today that prevents a pandemic, when compared to the 1918 scenario is: improved sanitation, improved medical care, improved hygene, and improved medications.

But please -- Look down your nose at me and stay-tuned as News TV brings your more terror and mayhem!

In my mind, with a completely new vaccine, there hasn't been time to establish if there are any long term negative effects. I'd rather let other people be the guinea pigs.
