Will we see subjugated species to the Klingon Empire?

Martok said, "We do not embrace other cultures; we conquer them!"

I want to see the Klingons have a paternalistic philosophy that subjugating primitive alien species is actually for the benefit of those species; that it gives those species something superior to what they had before.

We did get to see one of the Klingon subject races in ENT "Judgment," the Arin'Sen. The Klingons approached them originally offering full protection and rights within the Empire, but eventually stripped their colony planet of all resources, leaving them starving and destitute, and then declared them rebels against the Empire when they tried to leave the planet for a new home.

We can also presume that a large number of the species found in the Klingon penal colony of Rura Penthe are probably Klingon subject races jailed as political prisoners for crimes against the Empire.

To me it's still an open question qhether the Klingons have subjugated species or not

Can't really call yourself an Empire if you don't have subjected nations under your rule, can you? If the Klingons do not have subjected races, they should be the Klingon Kingdom, not the Klingon Empire.

Where did you think all those aliens on Rura Penthe came from? Also, we've seen them to take over planets such as Organia and Krios.

I'd love to see something like the old Star Fleet Universe depiction of the Klingon ships being crewed by about 60% subject races.

About the closest we got to that in modern Trek were the Kriosians rebelling against their Klingon conquerors in TNG.

No, the federation is the only one's allowed to be diverse. Every other culture is a unified stereotype.

One of the most overlooked, in my opinion, aspects of the Klingon Empire is that they have subjugated species under them. The fact that this is almost never shown is puzzling to me. The Empire must be pretty large, and it must comprise dozens of subjugated species (just like The Romulan Empire must have), and yet, these species never play a part. I hope this will change in this series, since Klingons seems to be explored so in depth!

I really hope we do see them, have always wondered about this too, even with the Romulans. We saw some of the races under the Dominion but not the two oldest villains we have.

It would explain a lot if the Klingons had a subjugated race who they used as slave labour or even people who upgrade their technology which would explain why they always seem able to keep up with Starfleet and the Romulans, I'd like to see that explored

Klingons aren't stupid. They just act that way.

Like humans.

After all, on TNG we had a Klingon exobiologist and medical doctor.
