Assuming that it's as inevitable as the frequency of the question would suggest I wonder if they missed a window of opportunity with the casting of the 12th Doctor. Seems now would've been the time to have made a big impact with such a move. I think by the time a woman is cast there will be a feeling of "Finally, they did it" instead of "Whoa!".

I don't think the next doctor will be female but there will be a female "doctress" sooner or later. But who cares for the next doctor? I'm happy with Capaldi for now and honestly I care much more for the next showrunner, since Moffat gets a little repetitive...

No, not really.

Did you read the post before mine?

It was this...

I don't care. It doesn't matter to me one little bit whether the Doctor is a guy or girl. What does matter is that they get in the very best possible actor or actress to play the role.

This

Well the best possible actor or actress they can afford at any rate ;)

Tom Cruise for a Dollar, or Robson Green for 12 thousand pounds an episode?

This post was brought to you by tonight's sponsor: "Context".

If anyone good enough offered to work for a dollar per episode, they would be hard pressed to find a reason to refuse them.

Irish Woman, with bright Ginger hair, as the next Doctor. That should make the fanbase freak out.
Imagine the fan meltdown if he did, indeed, revisit a "old favorite" face - that of a girl who waited...
And that would be the last nuWho episode I'd ever watch. I'm sure the actress is a very nice, very professional individual, but Amy is gone and no more reminders are wanted, thankyouverymuch.

Just for the freak out, it would be so worth doing.

Or do something similar to what Romana did and have the Doctor trying on different bodies: Amy, River, Rose, Martha, Donna.
Creepy. And revolting. Consider how taken aback the Fourth Doctor was when Romana decided to copy Princess Astra's body for her regeneration. The Doctor said she couldn't go around wearing other peoples' bodies, whereupon Romana replied that "it looked very nice on the Princess."

Tom Cruise says that he will do it, be Doctor Who for one American dollar.
What a revolting idea.

I want Capaldi to have a good run, at least another two or three series before he leaves. But when he regenerates, why not? In 1982 when I was a naive 19 year old and first watched episodes featuring Tom Baker, I might have balked at the concept, but the world and (hopefully) I have changed. I'm all for it.

Of more interest to me will her wardrobe. Not that it should really matter; it's just idle curiosity. Will it be something "gender neutral" that either sex might wear without someone raising a dubious eyebrow, or will it have elements some would debate as strictly "feminine", articles of clothing that would bother some people to see a man wear?

Sincerely,

Bill
Romana II's first outfit was a dusty pink version of the Doctor's coat, with a long, off-white scarf. But before that, while she was still regenerating, she wore a smaller version of the Doctor's own outfit.

Context: making sure you read every post. [Jon Stewart smile]

Not interested in the idea. There's no good reason why the Doctor should be female. Other than stupid politically correct nonsense.

There's no good reason the Doctor should be an alien.

There's no good reason the Doctor's spaceship should be disguised as an old police call box.

There's no good reason for any of it - it's all made-up. Wonderful, made-up nonsense.

The Doctor would make a terrible woman because if he slept, he is the sort of person who gets out of bed and confronts the day without a fresh set of clothes, brushed hair (or teeth) or a shower. Not that a woman can't face the day like a man does, but all the rest of the women in the universe will turn on the Doctor and destroy hir.

You need a good enough, affordable actor who will also be willing to do it for a season at least, but preferably three! Even if Cruise said he'd do an episode for $1 (did he really?), I doubt he'd do an entire season for $13, or some other reasonable figure. Although, I don't even think Cruise is a better actor than say Capaldi anyway! Mr Awe
