Why the hate for The Fight?

I know it's not the best episode in the world, but I really enjoy watching "The Fight".

I love the quote when he's in sickbay and yells at the Doctor "I'm tired, I want to sleep!"

I think Robert Beltran does an excellent acting job throughout the episode.

I was reading reviews around the web about it, and it gets low ratings. It's included in lists of worst Voyager episodes, too.

Anyone else enjoy that episode or am I crazy

I remember liking it enough at the time i first saw it. Along with Robert Beltran's performance I liked Ray Walston returning as Boothby and the whole use of the boxing. There was also something about the filming of this was different and i thought it was pretty good. I haven't been back to watch it since then so i can't say what my reaction to it now will be.

I generally enjoy most of Beltran's performances, in a series where the more popular characters overact and chew the scenery, Chakotay is calm and reserved.

Which the actor gets criticized for.

Once in a while though it's nice to see him "bust loose."

.

I liked seeing Boothby again even if he wasn't really Boothby.

Also liked the montage of the actors at the end. 'Our home is here...in chaotic space'.

Didn't hate the episode. Its in my neutral list which means I won't skip it if I'm doing a marathon but its not one that I will sit down and watch randomly for 'fun'.

I'm a bit confused. I think there are other episodes that are universally hated way more than this one (I didn't even know which episode "The Fight" was until I checked Trekcore.) The one where Janeway and Paris turn into space salamanders, and the one with the Rock, immediately spring to mind.

Well, it isn't one of the best VOY eps, in my book, but neither is it one of the boring ones.

The plot isn't terribly strong, perhaps, but it royally makes up for that with its execution (creating a nice, eerie atmosphere, playing on the fear Chak has for 'going mad', and containing a mix of both bizarre and familiar elements, taking me to the intersection of the world of the deranged and the mentally healthy and prompting me to ask questions).

I'd consider it average, at least, with extra points given for the fact that, at the least, it tries to do stuff that is less formulaic than many VOY eps. Whether it succeeds at that, anyone has to judge for himself I suppose.

Oh yeah, brilliant menacing "punch drunk" scene by the EMH :)

I've always liked it but then again it IS a J/C love fest. :bolian:

JANEWAY: When I said you should take the next day or two off, I thought you'd want to stay in your quarters with a good book.
CHAKOTAY: Boxing helps me unwind.
JANEWAY: Well in that case, report for duty first thing in the morning.
CHAKOTAY: See you then...

I thought this thread was about the episode where Seven fights The Rock and a Hirogen. I had to check Memory Alpha to jog my memory. The reason I don't remember it is simple - it's a Chakotay episode. Instant snoozefest for me. He was incredibly boring.

I like it now. However "crazy gene"? Rubber Tree people? Stupid concepts for Chakotay's character.

I like the bottle episode nature of it but the story is fairly tedious and even Beltran hamming it up to 11 doesn't help much.

The Flight is one of the better Chakotay episodes which means it's incredibly average.

I neither hate or love it.

It's obvious. the strictures of following simple weight classifications were totally ignored, Chakotay's description notwithstanding.

Inner light aside, I don't like these mental dream type episodes. Didn't really like Frame of Mind in TNG either. Applies to a lot of the Troi episodes too. And that one where Tuvok keeps seeing some falling kid. Although I thought that episode with Chakotay being recruited into a war in the jungle is one of the best eps in Voyager and that was some mental thing if I'm remembering right. I guess sometimes they're ok, but this one sucked.
