Maybe the lore is too much for a lot of writers. It wasn't too much for the teams working on Lower Decks and Prodigy though.
And this is why the writing room needs specialists on staff who know the "Lore & Technical Details" of the Universe you're writing in.
Since Star Trek isn't a "Fresh new Universe", there are ALOT of rules, history, lore, baggage, etc to deal with.
You're always going to need super fans / nerds who can help out the writing staff who isn't part of that group.
That's the same baggage with ANY franchise who has decades of lore / history to siff through.
You can't avoid it. You just accept it and get the technical help you need to make it work.
That's part of life.
Doesn't matter if it's DC / Marvel / Star Trek / Star Wars / Gundam / <Any Old IP that has a long history with multiple shows>.
You look at technical fields like Computers, there's so much detail / levels of understanding that you need teams of specialists to make sense of things.
There's rarely ever one person who can understand every level of every aspect.
You can find people who understand most of it, but not every single layer, that person is still constantly learning.
Yeah, I've been watching since I was 8 and it's a part of what my life has always been. If Star Trek hits a rough patch I'm going to make my feelings known, but I'd be lying to myself if I said I could walk away at this point. Well, unless they reboot it that is.
I'm kind of the same, I just ride it out, and learn to enjoy the ride.
For me, I'm basically "All In" and just try to experience as much New Trek content as possible.
