Why the hate for Alex Kurtzman?

There are four ways that Alex Kurtzman's Era would end:

1. He retires.
2. The last series of his era ends or is cancelled without a replacement.
3. The higher-ups above him want to go in a different direction.
4. He gets an offer to run another franchise.

Neither were the head of the franchise.

Wasn't it his health that forced him away from TNG?
I was actually thinking about how he stepped away and handed things over to Fred Freiberger in the TOS days.

But, yes, I believe his health is what caused him to eventually back away from TNG. As I recall, he was really only fully involved in the first season, then on a limited basis in the second, and really just a figurehead from season 3 forward.

That would've been over the move to 10pm on Friday. He made the threat about that time slot. Back then you didn't quite make the same money or have the same celebrity as more modern showrunners.

Thinking back to the interviews in Chaos on the Bridge, I believe Maurice Hurley said GR stepped away from running the show full time mid-season 1. That was Hurley's stipulation for staying on and becoming the showrunner.

Maybe the lore is too much for a lot of writers. It wasn't too much for the teams working on Lower Decks and Prodigy though.
And this is why the writing room needs specialists on staff who know the "Lore & Technical Details" of the Universe you're writing in.

Since Star Trek isn't a "Fresh new Universe", there are ALOT of rules, history, lore, baggage, etc to deal with.

You're always going to need super fans / nerds who can help out the writing staff who isn't part of that group.

That's the same baggage with ANY franchise who has decades of lore / history to siff through.

You can't avoid it. You just accept it and get the technical help you need to make it work.

That's part of life.

Doesn't matter if it's DC / Marvel / Star Trek / Star Wars / Gundam / <Any Old IP that has a long history with multiple shows>.

You look at technical fields like Computers, there's so much detail / levels of understanding that you need teams of specialists to make sense of things.

There's rarely ever one person who can understand every level of every aspect.

You can find people who understand most of it, but not every single layer, that person is still constantly learning.

Yeah, I've been watching since I was 8 and it's a part of what my life has always been. If Star Trek hits a rough patch I'm going to make my feelings known, but I'd be lying to myself if I said I could walk away at this point. Well, unless they reboot it that is.
I'm kind of the same, I just ride it out, and learn to enjoy the ride.

For me, I'm basically "All In" and just try to experience as much New Trek content as possible.

Most folks are watching to be entertained. They don't care about the rules or the baggage. They want to be entertained, today.

You will get your entertainment, trust me. That's going to happen regardless.

The staff will make sure that the show's story will fit the rest of the Franchise's Universe and integrate more seamlessly, with far less friction.

You do realize that is essentially free advertising? There are folks out there that watch so they can complain.
I'm not talking about those who "Hate Watch" a show to complain.

I'm talking about the regular fans who just watch the show normally, & find reasons to complain for the sake of it.

They'll complain no matter what.
I can't do anything if that's their attitude.

But there are many who just find logical in-universe inconsistencies and will point them out.

e.g. (The latest Klingon MakeUp Change in DISCO S1)

That was a easily avoid-able problem or there are easy to explain in-universe solutions that they can come up with.

I'm talking about the folks whose material shows up on YouTube and articles that litter the internet. Those folks "criticisms" are free advertising for the franchise.
Like Eric Bischoff has stated, "Controversy creates Cash"

That's how they choose to make their $$$.
