Maybe because things like hair and especially clothes could be "real" (i.e. the hair a wig made outof real hair...like many people wear today)....blood would be harder to fake.
That is a very good answer. Blood simply standardized the process.
How hard is it confirm if it's a wig? Besides I'm pretty sure nobody wear's wigs anymore (at least according to GR)

With all the fights Klingon soldiers get into, Martokling could just make sure he takes the bodies to the morgue/crematorium/wherever and siphons some of their blood. So then he'd have a rotating stock of recent Klingon blood to export when he's about to get a blood screening.

I say he just had a trick dak'tang that had a supply of blood in it. In 'Way of the Warrior', they don't show his palm cut, just the blood comin' down onto the table with his palm down.

Exactly! Though Martok probably just punched everyone who asked him to prove he was... himself. XD
I always thought of it as a nod to John Carpenter's The Thing.
