Why is Leia only a ....

Back in the day, she was a leader in the Rebellion, but not the main leader. Here, she is the leader of the Resistance. It is all hers. She's not the leader of the Republic.

The Emprie likes impressive titles. High General and Grand Admirals and Grand Moffs. Add Supreme Leader to the list now for the First Order.

I think a better question would be "Why is Leia only a general, instead of a force wielding general"? Yeah, she can sense things, but we saw that before in TESB and TRotJ. I hope the next movie shows her force pushing or pulling something. She's just as powerful as Luke, if not more powerful. She's clearly more in control of her emotions. Luke had those occasional anger spurts. Leia's the type who joked about a Stormtrooper's height after being tortured for information moments before.

I'm not that knowledgeable about Star Wars ranks, but could it be that there are levels of Generals with matching labels? Even the highest general is still called "general" for the sake of simplicity.

The highest general's rank (4-star) is just "general". Below him is the lieutenant general, the [sergeant] major general and the brigadier general.

Historically, there are higher ranks than 4-star general. "General of the Army" is a 5-star general rank that's used in wartime so help delineate the chain of command. "Marshal", "Field Marshal" and "Air Marshal" are all ranks above general. "Generalissimo" is the conceptual ultimate rank.

Budget cuts most likey, they can't even give 3PO a gold arm and they only have X-Wings no Y or A wing fighters anymore.:cardie:

They have new X-wings that take over the roles of the older fighters. Ease of maintenance if you only have one fighter type.

It's interesting that the Rebellion consistently used the same types of fighters. That shows a systematic supply from somewhere. It seems that the manufacturer or supplier would have been in great danger from the Empire for dealing with the Rebellion at all.

The backstory for the X-wing places it as being in Incom fighter. They design team and a large part of their staff defected to the Rebels with their prototype X-wings and all design schematics. It would seem one of the Rebel planets managed to setup a factory to make the new fighters much like Star Wars: Rebels said Bail Organa had managed to find a sympathetic shipyard to start producing B-wings several years before Yavin.
