Why dose Starfleet medical and science share a common uniform configuration?

Or it could just mean the entire medical department eventually switches to blue. Not a lot to go on, really. Though I don't believe we've seen anyone wearing the type of uniform Chapel was wearing in Quality of Mercy in SNW's present day.

Hasn't there been some talk here why some blue uniforms have different shades?
Either the wardrobe department messed up a little or there's your answer, there are many shades of blue.

Or.... just guessing here, it's just a game Starfleet plays, "Guess the department"
Red - Is this officer a command officer or supposed to be at the helm?
Blue - Doctor or science officer?
Yellow or mustard - Security or technician?

In the new shows or the old one? In the old shows the longer they used a uniform the more faded it got. (cleaning) Also when they changed fabric the color was different. On the new shows I don't think they've used a uniform long enough to fade.

In Starfleet the assumption is you do your job and report to your department.

Plus, a red shirt with a class in biochemistry can be a field medic.

It's not about what you're qualified to do, or your official position. It's about what you're currently doing as a function of which department.

KIRK: Mister Chekov. You've been shadowing Mister Scott. You are familiar with the engineering systems of this ship?
CHEKOV: Affirmative, sir.
KIRK: Good. You're my new Chief. Go put on a red shirt.
CHEKOV: Aye, Captain.

In the alt timeline future of "Quality of Mercy" Chapel is in blue and I think all the medical personnel are also in blue. Does white mean civilian and blue Starfleet?
We've seen other medical personnel in white, without anything else to go on, maybe only the doctors are in blue, while nurses, technicians, etc., wear white.

I also think they've quietly dropped the "civilian" thing for Chapel, it hasn't been mentioned since the first episode.

In the new shows or the old one?

These pictures are from STNG episode 'Remember Me' from season 4.

Bev's uniform is older.
I also bet the women's, being more form-fitting jumpsuits, are probably a slightly different fabric (likely incorporating spandex) that takes color, and eventually fades, differently even if the exact same dye is used.

Not sure why this is still confusing.

Blue means you are basically a civilian, you can be sent virtually anywhere on a planet/station/starship alien world whereever. You have no direct connection to your vessels.

Operations crews are trained and developed directly for specific tasks on a ship.

Red is command or management. Where the focus is on specific general tasks/missions not necessarily having anything to do with the ship.

The uniform doesn't reflect what you do, but why you do it. Similar to how the naval air corp, marine air corp, army air corp and air force have their own air forces that are specific to the whys of a mission.

Army aircorp assists in supporting ground troops. Air Force focuses on a more global outlook, focused on bombing missions etc. The Marines are used in speedy assaults//amphibious landings etc. While the naval air corp is focused primarily around air craft carriers.
