Why Do We Demand Internal Consistency & Continuity in Star Trek?

I'm not sure how trivial it is. It is a big part of "The Neutral Zone". One of those clubs used to look down on 20th/21st century humanity.

I think that's often overstated, the crew especially Picard did look down on Ralph but, though they did feel a little perplexed by the other two 21st century survivors they didn't look down on them let alone act hostile to them.

I don't demand internal consistency and continuity in Star Trek. The lack of internal consistency and continuity in Star Trek has given me a lot to think about and discuss. Sometimes I don't know what I would do if Star Trek had more internal consistency and continuity.
