Why Do The Klingons Look Like Shredder From TMNT

How do they look dumb? The Klingon change in TMP makes as much sense as the JJ change. It added a look that hadn't been seen before.

It was a change for the sake of having more money to make the Klingons look more alien. It had a point. What point is JJ making with his Klingons? They can look dumb?
That's just the rationalization for the change.

Like fireproof78, I'm not seeing the problem with the look of the Klingons in STID. They follow the pattern established in TMP and are no more variable from that than other make ups we've seen over the last 38 years.

They look goofy. Like something from a bad "300" parody. Just my opinion.

Now I never said any of it makes any sense. I just think the change in TMP was justified by the movie budget allowing for more creativity when it came to the aliens. The phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind when I see the JJ Klingons. There was nothing wrong with the look they'd had since 1979 and (IMO) this new look is not an improvement.

Yet Spock looks the same. And ilia is a human with a shaved head

Sounds like a complaint for the sake of complaining.

It still doesn't make any sense in TMP.

Also, in my opinion, the coats and helmets give it a decidedly local and almost Soviet look that hearkens back to the concept of the Klingons as the Soviets to the Federation's US. It has a distinct flavor that I like.

Obviously, mileage will vary.

Their costumes are lame along with their piercings. Not a fan of the barely there ridges either. Satisfied? I don't like them. Get over it.

It doesn't make any sense. Period:rommie:

As far as the costumes go it's a matter of preference. I don't like them but you do and that's fine. Each to their own. I stand by my opinion that the change in appearance was unnecessary on this occasion but I also accept your point that TMP Klingons could be deemed unnecessary also although I do think there was a good reason for it due to the increased budget even if it was bizarre at the time.

Fair enough :techman:

Here's a point of consideration that is more of why I think the way I do. Abrams' get's crap for changing things "unnecessarily" and not making "true Trek (trademark pending). At the same time, when he revisits characters from prior works, then he is "unoriginal" and "ripping off" Star Trek.

To me, the Klingons in the new films, regardless of my personal opinion, add to the Klingon culture because we actually get to see some sort of variation in their style of dress. I mean, since TNG, we have not seen a whole lot of differences in terms of their wardrobe and culture.

So, maybe it is a change that makes no sense, or maybe, just maybe, the Klingon Homeworld is a rather large and potentially diverse in terms of regional differences. And that's a change I can get behind.

There is nothing to "get over." This is a discussion about differences in opinion. I'm trying to understand your point of view, hopefully more than "it sucks!" and that's it.

No need to get defensive.
