Why Did You Join TBBS?

"It was another lonely night"... and I found this forum where people seemed to have the same interests as me ~ I was intriqued and have been for over 2 years. I know that just makes me a youngster, but I like it here.
One of my first threads was 'you can invite 6 people for dinner at Quarks ~ who would you invite?' I was thrilled when someone posted 'great thread idea' ~ little things...

Believe it or not, I remember that thread. Threads in GTD tend to be a blur most of the time, but that one stands out when mentioned. Although I completely forgot that you started it.

Thanks AJ :)
Just looked it up and your choices were:

"Hmmm....

Me
Trip
Garak
Scotty
Shran
Soval "

Huh, I wonder why I woulda picked Soval (unless I wanted him to fight with Shran there). These days would probably be Trip, Garak, Scotty, Shran, and Jadzia (it was an awfully male-centered list as well).

And that was way back when talking about ST was new and exciting ~ now all I seem to do is hang about in Misc and winge :( It comes to us all

Happens to everyone. Those who still post in GTD impress me more than anyone else. After awhile, you've seen almost every topic there is.

I was a huge Voyager fan in middle school... let's not go there.
Oh lord, me too. In my defense it was the first show I ever watched and I didn't know any better. Up until middle school I used the television exclusively to watch hockey. But yeah.

In eighth grade I used to read Jim Wright's Voyager reviews, and every so often I'd check out a link to TrekToday. TrekToday had a link to recent board posts, and I guess I must've wanted to reply to one someday. Anyway, I haven't been interested in Star Trek for a long time but I still come here. Weird.

They pointed to another forum, called the Subspace Comms Network

I used to post there years ago, remember a conversation which descended into bashing this site for various reasons so checked it out... Hardly ever been back on, here was far more interesting.

I belong to some Trek groups on LiveJournal and someone linked to TrekBBS. I lurked for all of 30 minutes or so, liked what I saw, and joined. I'm having a lot of fun here and am glad I found you guys. :)

That's right, keep posting. Little do you know you're drawing ever closer to the poison donut.

I was bored and depressed.

This ^

I had just done through a really bad break-up which had cost me much of my social network and left me at loose ends. Too much time on my hands + internet = Colonel Green.

These days I am happy and busy, so I am in lurker mode to a certain extent. I'm still here quite a bit, but I don't generally join in any contentious thread unless I think I'll have time to see it through to the end. This is especially true in TNZ (where I post most often), as I don't want anybody to think that I bailed on a debate when I was in fact just too busy to continue.

I could recognize the difference between good episodes and bad episodes then, though. I still remember tuning into the New York feed of UPN that I made my parents pay extra for on Dish Network because the local station only showed it (and later Enterprise) at random times in the middle of night.

I joined because I wanted to talk to people about Star Trek, learn more about it without people thinking you are weird, nerdy, freaky. And at least talking to other fans they know what I'm talking about when I have questions. Have you ever tried to talk to some who doesnt know anything of Star Trek other then they dont like it?

Its awkward.

We ARE weird, nerdy, and occasionally freaky. Nothing to be ashamed of.

An acquaintance from another site had recommended TrekToday for the latest news on TV shows and movies, and VOY had just ended. So I thought it would be fun to connect with a community of fellow sci-fi geeks and aficionados. That was ... about ten years ago, I believe.

I was involved in a science fiction fan club in Las Vegas. At one of the meetings, I was talking to someone there and found out that we lived in the same apartment complex. A couple of weeks later, they came over and told me about the Trekbbs. I joined, was purged in the Christmas Massacre, and then joined again on December 25, 2002. I've been here since...

O, I didn't mean that I feel awkward. It's the whole situation, trying to explain it to a friend who really doesn't care and you stop mid-sentence cause realize that and then you say nvm and...there's many times that this has happened. And I'm not one to talk to much about Star Trek, but its nice to have someone to relate to it. So its more the situation and the other person feels awkward.

I had been waiting for the final season of VOY to air here in the UK, and I was super excited (don't laugh), and wanted spoilers about the season finale because I knew viewers in the states had already seen Endgame.

The VOY forum was quite something back then... spectacularly lively... I remember being shocked at the bashers and continual conflict! And that's when I first became exposed to Janeway/Seven subtext, which I didn't credit at first. Good times! :D

Way back when little miss trampledamage was a baby and I was sleep deprived

I was already reading KRAD's livejournal and he often mentioned funny stuff from here, so one day I finally thought 'you know, I should go and see what that place is like'. And since I always sign up straight away rather than lurking, that was me, here :)
