Why Did You Join TBBS?

As for why I left the board: because there's nothing here for me anymore.

Cheerio.

But I had about a half dozen sites that I checked daily for news about books, movies, comics and TV; TrekToday was one of them. In the sidebar, they listed the most popular Threads or the latest Threads or whatever, and eventually I started lurking here, especially when I realized there was often more news in the forum than on the news page.
Same story. I used to check TrekToday for Trek-related news (something which was pretty scarce in Italy outside of the Internet at the time), and I started to look into the TrekBBS from that.

Yeah, I think TrekToday was key for a lot of folks back in the early 2000s. I went there via TrekWeb. I also found Star Trek in Sound and Vision through TrekWeb.

Man I miss STinSV.

I originally came here as an alternative to another Star Trek Books message board which at one point had been the best place for discussions with the authors and editors. However, after that board crashed and was down for several weeks, people migrated here, and I followed. (As an aside, while the original board came back, it was never the same and is currently a ghost town of sorts.)

For a long time I never left the Trek Literature forum but now I'm all over the place. I'm still a rare poster, as I find I often come to the conversations too late to say anything that hasn't already been said. But it's great fun reading even when I'm not participating in the conversation. I don't really have any other social outlet on the Internet, and that's the way I like it.

I lurked for a few months before the 09 movie came out, then signed up to post on something. Never got around to posting on it, then a few weeks later started posting in earnest.

I joined so I can talk about Trek with more people.

Star Trek was pretty much a memory. Enterprise mostly sucked, Insurrection sucked. But then the Xindi came along, and Nemesis, and Star Trek was awesome again :).

Then it went away :(

Then, months later, I was leafing through a couple of issues of the Star Trek magazine (they were a few months out of date, from a magazine market), and in one I read that, despite setbacks, Rick Berman was "hopeful" about making an eleventh Star Trek film, about the Romulan War, but without the cast of Enterprise. In the other, dated a few months later, there's boxout with a TOS logo and people talking about a guy called JJ Abrams who's gonna try and save Star Trek - by bringing back Kirk and Spock. They also talked about Star Treks episodes being made by fans - but with real Star Trek actors in them! For free on the internet!

One of the mags also mentioned that writers of the Trek novels hang out at a place called TBBS. I investigated. Pretty much everything else I was interested in converged here too. I stayed.

I was searching the internet for general info on ST09 and somehow found the Robau thread. I lol'd and had to join. So, yeah that one thread made me join. May it never be closed!

And since I hated the boards over at StarTrek.com...

The boards over at Startrek.com really were god awful weren't they?

Anyway, my story isn't too exciting. After I got my own computer, I found myself bored on the internet a lot. I joined a forum to talk about a Star Trek computer game and one section had people discussing Star Trek episodes. One poster kept posting links to trekbbs, so I joined here as well. At the time, Enterprise was in its second season, so I had something to discuss here. I think the board actually got me watching Star Trek again. I watched TNG and most of DS9, but had sort of lost interest. The running commentary threads in the Ent forum kept me here and kept me watching.

Then I realized that there were a lot of cool people here, so I started paying attention more to everyone else than to whatever episode of the week was being discussed.

"It was another lonely night"... and I found this forum where people seemed to have the same interests as me ~ I was intriqued and have been for over 2 years. I know that just makes me a youngster, but I like it here.
One of my first threads was 'you can invite 6 people for dinner at Quarks ~ who would you invite?' I was thrilled when someone posted 'great thread idea' ~ little things...

Believe it or not, I remember that thread. Threads in GTD tend to be a blur most of the time, but that one stands out when mentioned. Although I completely forgot that you started it.

Ouch.

BTW--what's the new avatar this time? ;)

It's from Mikhail Bulgakov's satirical novel The Master and Margarita. One of the main characters is a diabolical, gun-toting cat named Behemoth. He would probably get along well with the RL Miss Chicken.

Hey I forgot about the Psi Phi connection.

I started there and found Jammers site and then a link from his site to here.

It's been a fun and interesting place to check in on from time to time. I'm continually amazed by the various talents of folks on here. There are some true artists.

Thanks AJ :)
Just looked it up and your choices were:

"Hmmm....

Me
Trip
Garak
Scotty
Shran
Soval "

It was my first thread and did 4 pages, but then I got told off for typing in italics!
And that was way back when talking about ST was new and exciting ~ now all I seem to do is hang about in Misc and winge :( It comes to us all

I don't remember HOW i found the BBS, but once i did i lurked for about 6 months or so. Once JJ's movie came out i HAD to join. I was just dying to talk about it with other people.

It had something to do with Lost... or maybe Babylon 5. I'm not very interested about Star Trek, but there are plenty of other topics and smart people so I joined.

I belong to some Trek groups on LiveJournal and someone linked to TrekBBS. I lurked for all of 30 minutes or so, liked what I saw, and joined. I'm having a lot of fun here and am glad I found you guys. :)
