Why did everyone hate "Faith of the heart"?

Well, here's my reasoning:

1) It was a rather cheesy song to start with.
2) It was arranged well but covered by someone who mimicked Rod Stewart and not well.
3) It grew annoying after about three listenings as theme song.
4) It didn't really fit well with what I wanted for a Trek theme song.

I don't hate it. I just prefer Archer's Theme.

Tho' I will say it was pretty darn jarring to have that optimistic ballad come on the heels of the shocking teaser in "The Expanse" -- not to mention the perky version we got Season 3.

I preferred Archer's Theme as well. I liked the visuals that accompanied the opening credits, though.

I loved the opening theme for the Mirror episodes.

It isn't a bad song, per se, I just think it doesn't fit well at all with the show - not only with Trek but with scifi of any sort. Whenever I hear it (which was just last night - I watched my first ENT episode in a long time), it makes me think of some feel-good family drama. It would work great as the theme song for a movie or show about recovering alcoholic. Really. Read the lyrics.

I like the art in the opening credits, though - that's pretty cool. And I like that they tried something new. But it would have been nice if it was more scifi and less "Hallmark Hall of Fame" special.

Edit: Oh, and I don't enjoy the singer much either. I don't care for the real Rod Stewart, and if I don't like the original, I'm not going to like an imitator any better.

"Archer's Theme" would have been a better opening score. But for what it was, "FotH" worked...at least for me.

I like it, though the lyrics are a clumsy and amateurish:

It's been a long time
Well my time is finally near

The repetition of that word dosen't work for me.

Oddly enough, the next verse has lines better suited to Star Trek, IMO:

It's been a long night
Trying to find my way
And through the darkness
Now I finally had my day

Joe, up tempo

Edit: Oh, and I don't enjoy the singer much either. I don't care for the real Rod Stewart, and if I don't like the original, I'm not going to like an imitator any better.

The singer reminds me of the guy they use on those beer commercials that make fun of singers like Rod Stewart and Michael Bolton.

Joe, guy

I still say they should've used Europe's "The Final Countdown" ;)

Reminds YouTube has all these "alternate opening theme songs for Enterprise" video, one of which absurdly states "if they'd used this music the show would still be on today".

^ Welllllll....I wouldn't call the theme music the deal killer. I didn't like it, but it didn't, you know, deliver the death blow to my enjoyment of Enterprise or anything. Somebody's enjoying a little bit of hyperbole, I think.

I actually quite like both versions of the theme, but I was a bit miffed why they went the super happy version for Season 3. Maybe they didn't want us to get too depressed? :p

I would've liked to have heard the instrumental version from the end credits of Broken Bow a few more times though. It seemed a shame that arrangement only got one airing. (The same goes for Fight or Flight's version of Archer's Theme, which I prefer over the standard version).

I never really understood people's outright vitriol towards it though. There are programmes that I watch that have pretty bad theme tunes, but it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the show itself, and I don't over-react by putting pillows over my ears and using my fist to punch the mute button into oblivion.

My one criticism of the theme tune is I always wished they'd written something original, rather than going for something some people associated with a different film and a different artist. I'm not sure what they would've written given that choice - I've got a feeling it'd be somewhere between metal and opera :shifty:

I really hate the synthesized dirge that plays over the end credits.

My little daughter and I both dive for the remote when it starts playing.

Joe, anti-dirge

I don't like it because it is a boring, derivative load of shit.

That they used a boring derivative load of shit as the Enterprise theme tune is just adding insult to injury.

I don't like it because it's about 'faith', a belief system that involves one to believe in something without proof. It's a little too religious for something to be in Star Trek.

"I've got faith to believe"
"I've got strength of the soul"
"I've got faith, I've got faith"
....
....
....

Ya, that sounds like STAR TREK to me.
