Why are ''BAD'' words bad?

Of course, we all have our own opinions, those were mine personally. I do not curse outloud in my daily life. My friends and family know this about me, I choose not to do it. Sure, I'll think bad words in my head like everyone, but I make a choice not to say them outloud, even if I slam my finger in a car door (which I have done before), like others, I sometimes make up my own words. I've often been heard saying "crapanoodle" heh, lately i've been saying "Oh fat rats"

And what, exactly, is the difference between saying it in your head and saying it outloud?

And what, exactly, is the difference between saying "crapnoodle" and "shitbrick"?

I can't control what's in my head, but I can control my actions and what I say.

What's the difference between the two words? One is a curse word, the other is not.

I have to go with what the Bible says on the subject, as this is the code I follow:

Ephesians 4:29 - "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

First Peter 3:10 - "For, whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech."

Luke 6:45 - "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks."

This is from another website, to which I agree with that explains it better than I:

"Why is it a sin to cuss / swear / curse? Sin is a condition of the heart, the mind, and “the inner man” (Romans 7:22), which is manifested in our thoughts, actions and words. When we swear and curse, we are giving evidence of the polluting sin in our hearts that must be confessed and repented of."

I ripped that from here, which explains it much better than I can, and it is what I believe about cursing - http://www.gotquestions.org/cussing-swearing.html

I must again state, this is what I believe is the truth. I'm not telling you what to believe, just stating what I do.

^Erm, that says sin is a condition of the mind/heart so if you're thinking it doesn't that mean you're sinning anyway?

Yes

Ok, kinda sounds like self-hate to me... but whatever.

No man is immune to sin

Why give way to more sin by stating what is in my mind outloud, no one but God hears whats in my head, but once I utter it outloud, now I've affected other people around me, perhaps also leading them to sin as well

Okay, how do you KNOW "shit" is a curse word and "shoot" is not?

Also, doesn't the Bible say that to sin in your mind/heart is the same as doing it in life?

I know a pillar of salt, who committed the terrible sin of turning her neck, who would disagree.

Old testament, different set of circumstances.... anyway, beyond the scope and intent of this threads original topic.

Not really beyond the scope, since we're discussing intent of the heart.

J.

And not beyond the scope since YOU brought God into it. Not me.

However, I'll allow you, this one time, to drop in God then skedaddle when questioned, since I'm really not after a religious....

Well, okay, maybe it was I who brought RELIGION into it, anyway.

Here's the question I really cared about you answering...

How do you KNOW "shit" is a curse and "dagnabbit" is not?

What makes one collection of letters, with the EXACT SAME MEANING as another collection of letters, a curse, while the other is decent?

In my opinion (although I think you were directly questioning Brent), cursing is completely relative. It is intent of the heart. Whether I say "Fuck" or "Fiddlesticks" (or "Fucking Fiddlesticks"), the same intent is there: to curse the particular object or situation in which I am currently involved. You don't clean up intent, only the tools by which you express it.

J.

Exactly my point. It is the intended communication that matters, not which collection of letters you use to communicate.
