why Adult Swim? WHY?!

Ah, recycled garbage then, but at least there's a use for that stuff. Bad comedy is non-recyclable. :rommie:

Cartoon Network is trying its best to be like Nickelodeon and Adult Swim wants to compete with Saturday Night Live and Mad TV.

Anime has an audience, but Adult Swim wants more than just anime fans on Saturday nights. And on Cartoon Network proper, Toonami was just pulling in the wrong demographic they wanted since they started skewing towards the coveted 6-13 age group a few years ago...
Well, if they were getting good ratings, though...why ruin a good thing?
It's kinda complicated, but it generally deals with which demographic is most likely to spend the most money for a particular product or types of products. The 6-13 demographic is more appealing to advertisers looking to promote their products on Cartoon Network than the older demographic that Toonami generally gets (an example would be a company that makes stuff for 6-13 year olds is more likely to buy ad time on Cartoon Network if the network pulls in more of a younger crowd than an older one not likely to buy their product).

I saw AS's bump last night and it said people would come crawling back in December. I don't think they get it. They've weakened their Saturday night loyal fanbase. How many people tuned in for anime and Futurama? Now they're showing stuff that looks to me as if you need to be seriously buzzed to get into it... :wtf: I turned off after Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist.

I agree that Adult Swim doesn't get it. Saturday nights will never do as well as Sunday nights even if they dropped anime altogether, IMO. There's simply less competition on Sunday nights from the other networks and more people are generally home that night.

In contrast to Adult Swim Saturday, SCI-FI Channel is having success with its Ani-Monday block...

Cartoon Network seems to be taking a page from G4/TechTV in the boneheaded moves department.

How much would it cost to program a cable channel that just broadcasts anime and has like 10 people employed and that is all, no silly bumpers, no crazy over produced commercials, just plain anime and sci-fi and nothing much more.

I know it would cost to license things, but with little to no overhead, just how much would it cost?

you know what sucks? that they moved Code Geass back at around the moment the show gets really cool(killer Euphie & the return of Orange.) Would it had killed them to just finish showing the last 6 eps of the series at the earlier time slot, even if it was like at 1 or 1:30 am?:scream:

its sad that viewers that were watching the dub will never get to see the greatness that is episode 23-25 Orange-kun. :(

I don't know but give me a ring if you intend to start one. I've got more than enough anime to fill the airwaves. :techman:

Now we need a lawyer, a video editor, a PR person, a tech crew, and someone with a whole bunch of money to purchase the broadcasting rights. The lottery's at a hundred and fifty-four million at the moment, time to buy a ticket!

An all anime network is cost prohibitive because of massive licensing fees, companies unwilling to buy ad time for shows "nobody watches", and cable providers unwilling to carry the channel, those things have put a halt to anime channels in the past. On the other hand as high def technology becomes more commonplace a network could multicast several different versions of a show one dubbed, one subbed, and one edited, this way everyone can watch a show how they want and only have to put up with one commercial break so I think new technology like this could save anime on tv.

Doesn't TV already have a SAP channel you could use for japanese language?

^ That's the thing they have to make the options available as far as I know AS doesn't give you the those options, I'm surprised nobody has thought of this before. Knowing networks like Sci-Fi and G4 they will use the new tech as an excuse to mulitcast episodes of Hurl and Ghost Hunters.

There's that for me as well and also the fact I really dislike the dumb as a stump, happy go lucky, character arctype usually associated with shounen fighting series (Naruto, Goku from Dragonball/Z, etc.). The ones I end up really liking (Bleach, Buso Renkin, Claymore, D.Gray-man, Fullmetal Alchemist, Kaze no Stigma, Rurouni Kenshin, Scryed, and Yu Yu Hakusho) usually have a different style of protagonist.

No one in this thread honestly thinks Pilot Candidate was a good show that should be aired still, right?

This was brought up earlier and I've just now gotten over the astonishment that someone spoke somewhat positive about it.
