It's kinda complicated, but it generally deals with which demographic is most likely to spend the most money for a particular product or types of products. The 6-13 demographic is more appealing to advertisers looking to promote their products on Cartoon Network than the older demographic that Toonami generally gets (an example would be a company that makes stuff for 6-13 year olds is more likely to buy ad time on Cartoon Network if the network pulls in more of a younger crowd than an older one not likely to buy their product).Well, if they were getting good ratings, though...why ruin a good thing?Cartoon Network is trying its best to be like Nickelodeon and Adult Swim wants to compete with Saturday Night Live and Mad TV.
Anime has an audience, but Adult Swim wants more than just anime fans on Saturday nights. And on Cartoon Network proper, Toonami was just pulling in the wrong demographic they wanted since they started skewing towards the coveted 6-13 age group a few years ago...
How much would it cost to program a cable channel that just broadcasts anime and has like 10 people employed and that is all, no silly bumpers, no crazy over produced commercials, just plain anime and sci-fi and nothing much more.
I know it would cost to license things, but with little to no overhead, just how much would it cost?
An all anime network is cost prohibitive because of massive licensing fees, companies unwilling to buy ad time for shows "nobody watches", and cable providers unwilling to carry the channel, those things have put a halt to anime channels in the past. On the other hand as high def technology becomes more commonplace a network could multicast several different versions of a show one dubbed, one subbed, and one edited, this way everyone can watch a show how they want and only have to put up with one commercial break so I think new technology like this could save anime on tv.
No one in this thread honestly thinks Pilot Candidate was a good show that should be aired still, right?
This was brought up earlier and I've just now gotten over the astonishment that someone spoke somewhat positive about it.
i didn't so much say Pilot Candidate was good as it was in the lineup with good shows
