Thank you. I am SO tired of television shows being incapable of showing a true professional work environment. Having everyone paired up with each other creates the wrong impression that men and women can't work together without having thoughts of sex in the back of their minds. Relationships among co-workers are rare, not the norm. At least in my experience.
I don't believe we are watching the rocketship and ray guns show to see normal people.

I'm not watching it to see professed professional officers act live lovesick teenagers with no impulse control, either. There's always the shows with sparkly love vampires for stuff like that.

If I wanted to watch a procedural about people whose relationships are purely professional in their workplace that never gives us the opportunity for further development and exploration of complex characters and relationships, I'd watch Law & Order.

Anyway...

That scene in "Spock Amok" with Christine and Spock in the restaurant. That look Christine has at the end after Spock teases her. Hot damn. Girl's already got it bad for Spock and in this version of their pairing it actually makes sense.

This episode made the whole Spock/Chapel thing make even less sense. Chapel dismissively says in the same episode that she doesn't want "boring" guys. Spock's as boring as it gets outside of his job as an officer.

Obviously not to Christine.

I mean, just think about it. What's the thing that makes her smile, hide her face, and then smile even wider? It's her realizing that Spock had taken advantage of her preconceptions about Vulcans taking Human idioms literally to tease her. Whether she's thinking about it consciously or not, the thing that impresses her there is that a Vulcan has taken her into his confidence and expressed an emotion in order to bond with her. And then, Spock takes her even further into his confidence by soliciting her assistance in a moment of monumental crisis as he is stuck in T'Pring's body -- showing to her a level of trust and vulnerability that Vulcans do not easily show to others. And this is all happening very soon after they've met -- so for him to make those choices means that there's something about her that he likes, whether he'll admit it or not.

This is clearly something that intrigues her in a way Dever does not. Which makes sense -- a lot of people are attracted to people who are more reserved, because it means more when they open up to you.

Or you could watch TOS.........

And you can explore complex characters and relationships without workers dating each other.

But what constitutes "boring?" It looks more like Chapel wants who a guy who won't get attached. The guy in this episode only becomes boring when he wants a more meaningful relationship than the casual fling they had up to that point.

By that standard, Spock is the most interesting man you can find. He's both physically and emotionally unavailable.

New ship:
  • Pike and Alora
Vina: Chris, the Talosians decided to move us to Majalis after reading about it in your mind. They're tired of having to constantly entertain us with illusions and think the permanent cure the Majalans have is a better path forward for both of us. And no, the Talosians aren't interested in your moral hangups any more than they were when they tried to make a slave race.

Pike: :(

Well, we did have that wedding in Balance of Terror. I assume those two had a date or two. Scotty was seriously hitting on Mira Romaine in Lights of Zetar. I bet "tennis couple" in The Cage were on a date.

I think it's pretty clear the Majalans aren't giving Pike jack shit after the end of that episode.
