Who was the being from the Future?

He knows so much about alternate universes, had the gravitas to stand up to the Emperess, and is a high ranking but mysterious Federation Security operative of sorts. If they were going to go in that direction at all and deal with the tcw, he is by far the only worthy character that has been introduced for the role. He is obviously, mysteriously important.

Then in my opinion that would make him the least likely candidate to be FutureGuy, because none of those attributes you state pertain to the character from ENT.

Okay, this thread is a mess. First someone puts a Future Guy possible in spoiler tags. And then a second guy, and I can't tell if it's a serious guess or not. But then several of you plunge into deep what-if discussion with descriptions and situations and details piling up like snowdrifts, making it easier and easier to be spoiled about this supposed mystery guy. Then someone describes the fame level of the actor who plays the dude. Then someone fricking NAMES THE ACTOR. Then a bunch of you just stop putting the character names in spoiler tags, and here we are now, with about 50 posts covered in spoiler tags, because I have NO IDEA how much you've given away, because I haven't watched Disco, and I'm one of those silly people who doesn't like to be spoiled.

We're not a full 6 months out from Disco Season 3, so the spoiler rule was in effect, but who cares now, right? This isn't even an ENT thread anymore, that ended about 30 posts ago.

ETA:
Ah, sleep is a wonderful thing. So I'm thinking this morning that the real question is, was putting Kovich in spoiler tags originally, doing a service for Disco and ENT viewers because it was a legit educated guess and could have impacted fans' viewing experience if/when Future Guy was revealed? In that case, a bunch of you deserve warnings for dropping the spoiler tags you yourselves initiated in the first place, along with giving away the character's identity with all those obvious hints beforehand.
OR
is this just the same guesswork speculation ENT viewers have been doing for years, not really spoiler-worthy at all, but you MIS-used spoiler tags for shits and giggles and just dropped them when it got to be too much of a pain, and the moderator doesn't know any better cuz she doesn't watch Disco, so she unfortunately took the spoilers seriously? In which case you should all be slapped around for treating the spoiler tool like a fun toy, which it is definitely not.

Some additional information from y'all will really help the goal of repairing the thread. Or we just close the poor thing and label this a messy teachable moment. Thanks!

I think it is a very possible thing, but it is built on so much speculation and out on such a limb it is probably just regular ENT speculation. There is a big mystery regarding both characters, and there were more TCW references than usual during dsc s03, it is a natural but iffy response to combine and extrapolate the two, but for now it makes for great head canon. I think it's partially because we are finally past the dates for "the future" so someone in universe must at least have the answer to who FG is. I stand by my reasoning for the guess, but it is really just a guess, based on both shows presenting odd unexplained mysteries.

There is not enough known about the DSC character, to really guess what his purpose is, but that's what makes it so intriguing; He knows a LOT; he is VERY IMPORTANT; he is similarly LOW KEY and UNDER THE RADAR; the character is absolutely undefined, other than the BIG NAME ACTOR, and all of his scenes seem to involve discussion on
Time Travel and Alternate Universes.

It may be speculation, but I still believe it is LOGICAL speculation.

There is a better chance that

Prime Universe Lorca is Future Guy than Kovich. Since we have no idea what happened to him, and where he ended up.

It would be quite the swerve if Future Guy turned out to be Trip though.

Apologies accepted, thank you.

The last few posts indicate to me that the thread, regrettably ugly spoiler-tag-plastered though it is, is still alive and worth continued reading. And y'all are making a case that possible spoilers might exist, so thanks for using the tags. We hit the six-month mark for DSC S3 spoilers in about a month, and then spoiler tags will no longer be necessary.

OR I can still slap a SPOILERS warning in the title and you can relax about the tags and just speculate to your hearts' content.

Feel free to weigh in with your preferences.

Hey hey, it's been six months since the last episode of DSC Season 3 aired! So speculate to your hearts' content without fear of spoilage for not-yet-Disco viewers. Spoiler header removed.

Delta Vega, there was a mess here for a while, but it's been fixed. Check the OP for the topic.

They talked about the temporal cold war and showed a outline of someone helping the Suliban and the captain. What is the running consensus on what that was supposed to be all about?

It was never officially revealed, but I think the general consensus was that it was a future Archer.

I never saw consensus at all. All the speculation I saw was just various other Star Trek characters, none of which made much sense.

Yeah, with you there. I never liked the idea of it being a 'future author.' I actually preferred the avenue Christopher took with his DTI novels, that it was a being from the future trying to manipulate events for his own ends basically (there was much more too it of course, but that's the basic gist of it).

But all our speculations are just that. Until something definitive shows up on screen none of that is canon so future show runners can do what they want with it. (I haven't seen season 3 yet).

IIRC, Berman and Braga suggested in an interview after the series ended that it would have turned out to be Archer himself.

Very early fan theories were that it would turn out to be a Romulan. Fans claimed they could even see vague outlines of Romulan shoulder pads and pointed ears.

My guess during Season Four: the Romulan plot (in the Andorian 3-part arc) which involved Admiral Valdore, scientist Nijil and Senator Vrax suggested to me that something planned for the resolution in a Season Seven finale may have moved to this season. Perhaps one of those three was "Future Guy"? Especially since Valdore ends up being the name of a Romulan vessel in "Nemesis".

... Or put any thought or preplanning at all into the Temporal Cold War.

Berman and Braga admitted that they did not do much planning for that storyline. They figured it would grow in the telling and eventually suggest a conclusion.

Memory Alpha refers to the character as "Humanoid Figure."
I can't remember how he was listed in the end credits of the show.
Apparently one of the novels gave him a little more backstory, but of course that's not "cannnnon."
