Since the subject is the costume, I have question. I suspect most of us in this discussion have read one account or another stating the initial costume was supposedly inspired by "period" strongman outfits. Thing is, the images I have found look nothing like Supe's. Instead, they tend to be "tank-top" unitards with thin horizontal stripes or a leopard print garment with a single strap lopping over just one shoulder. Yeah, I know some of those are just modern day recreations or "pastiches" of period garments, But I don't remember ever stumbling across a photo depicting an "authentic" strongman suit that resembled the iconic tights and trunks arrangement.

If someone can link some real-life examples, I would find it fascinating. Or is that claim just a comics historical "myth"?

Henry Cavill's by a mile. Great color and texturing and he actually looks jacked and ripped, not like that scrawny, shapless Reeve dude.

This sounds like a job for… @Christopher !

I have to say Christopher Reeve's suit. To me, it was just the perfect, quintecential Superman suit. However, I actually did like Brandon Routh's suit, as well. Mostly the texturing, although it could have been a bit brighter.

Love the long cape, the extra detail and Kryptonian writing in the "chainmail" of the BvS Superman suit. Loved the Superman Returns update of the classic Superman movie costume, too - although that \S/ plate would have shown through his shirt!

As much as I am a fan of the more traditional look (lighter blue coloring, red shorts, yellow belt, etc.), I do love the Man of Steel/Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice costume. I feel it is the best updating. Hoechin's shoulders bother me (I've never liked attempts to put red on the shoulders.

Visually, Reeve's outfit is the most true to a large swath of the way Superman looked in the comics, but honestly, the material has been thoroughly dated. The spandex does not look good. It's definitely a close second, though, for me.
