Which Superman costume is the best?

Christopher Reeve's:

Cavill's.

Most of them have nice elements that others don't; there's been no ideal version.

The Reeve costume, followed by Henry Cavill's--the Gold standard in look (and overall interpretation of the character). Alyn's earns an honorable mention. The other costumes are forgettable or look as cartoony / Halloween costume-ish as a Power Rangers costume.

Superman The Movie's costume is unlikely to ever be seen in a modern or future film but Reeve totally carried it off.

Cain's costume was pretty dodgy looking then and hasn't aged well.

Some aspects of Routh's were quite nice but it was too muted and inexplicably made him look much less muscular than he really was.

Cavill's have both been very nice, again, a little muted for my taste.

Much to my surprise, I'm probably liking the Supergirl Superman's cozzie best.

I've got to go with Reeve, it's a perfect adaptation of the classic Superman look. Cavil and Hoechlin are tied for second.

They're called trunks. Like what swimmers and runners wear. The "underwear" line is an old, old joke that was not meant to be taken literally, and it wore out its welcome a very long time ago.

OK, in all seriousness now, I have to say that for me it would be a toss up between Henry Cavill's and Tyler Hoechlin's costumes.

Perhaps a hybrid costume combining the best elements of the two would be the greatest ever.

P.S.: The costume Reeve wore is the iconic Superman suit and Reeve's portrayal will never be surpassed IMO, but that costume can't be used in a modern production anymore.

It's a photoshop using Chris O'Donnell's Robin as a base. I believe Cap was just messin' with us.

With some slightly better boots and a more traditional cape (and without the little tabs sticking off the chest crest) this would be just about as close to perfect as we're likely to see. I personally don't have a problem with trunks and prefer a yellow belt, but this is just an overall good design with just enough visual interest to break up the big blue bodysuit without it being distracting and weird looking like The Man of Steel suit.

Agreed. (No trunks and) a yellow/gold belt is a lot better than the red belt used in N52 and Supergirl.

All I can figure is they wanted a stronger contrast between Batman and Superman's costumes when they were standing together. In print especially, the red just isn't bright enough to serve as a contrast to the bright blue.

Brandon Rouths was actually a good costume, updated version of Christopher Reeves and I thought it worked well.

Dean Cain wore a few different costumes, the one he wore in the pilot, along with his vastly different portrayal was nigh on perfection for me, he then switched to the ridiculous cleavage suit and then onto the spandex abomination.

Cavills costume is decent but it's a little dark for me. I'm really not a fan of Hoechlin as Superman at all and I'd probably rank his costume as being the worst of all bar Cains spandex number.
