Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Universe"

Remember how Worf was picked to join "Ds9" because they felt he was a TNG character that best fit the tone of "Ds9" even though he was on a show like "TNG" that didn't have much of a edge to it.

If "Universe" is going to be like Battlestar Galatica in tone, which existing Stargateverse characters do you think would best fit that type of show, if they someday want to bring in a character to the show that has already been established? A few that I could think of.

I think Rodnay McKay would fit well. He isn't very PC which I think would transition well to that type of show.

Woosley=Beurcrat types, tend to fit itno any type of show.

Dr Lee=He would be a good fit, in part because he isn't really all that good of a scientist. He isn't going to be like Carter who is a expert on everything.

I forget his name but I really liked that military guy, O'Neil worked with in the ep were Daniel and Dr Lee are in the jungle and the pirates end up becoming zombies. The guy was in "Galaxy Quest" and all sorts of shows.

While I like Rodney, I'm getting a little burned out on the whole arrogant genius thing. Plus, we're getting a slacker genius in Universe, and I bet he'll be a lot like Rodney. I'd like to see just a regular genius like Zalenka.
Also, Atlantis did very little to flesh out Major Lorne, except we know that he can paint. I'd like to see him on Universe and give him a little backstory.

Actor Enrico Colantoni played that character named Burke in Evolution pt2, where Jackson and Lee found the Telchak device that turned the cliche South American villians into zombies...

Re: Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Unive

I would prefer none.

Atlantis was cursed by those brought over (Carter) or didn't continue their character arc in a meaningful way (Lorne).

Why not take time to flesh out new characters?

Re: Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Unive

Woolsey!

Robert Picardo should get the trifecta of Stargateness!

Re: Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Unive

I wouldn't mind seeing Colonel Caldwell back, even though it's not quite the same depth of character Pileggi had on The X-Files. But he could become as interesting, if the writers gave him the material, a move that's not unprecedented, since Worf was more interesting on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine than Star Trek: The Next Generation most of the time.

Re: Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Unive

Woolsey or Caldwell because I like the actors. How about rescuing Browder from SG-1 movies and putting him on a new show? Not that it would make much difference considering the writers are the same but at least there would be someone worth watching on SG:U.

Re: Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Unive

Why does Browder need to be "rescued" ? He wasn't exactly a shining beacon of wonderfulness on SG-1. Stargate has more interesting characters played by better actors to transfer before him - Caldwell and Woolsey being too good choices.

Mitchell was just a cookie cutter TV action show lead. At least Sheppard had some personality.

But he was amazing on Farscape. Unless his acting talent has suddenly abandoned him, the obvious culprit is the lousy, unimaginative writing on Stargate. Browder is on my long laundry list of good actors who need good shows with writing that will let them use their talent rather than just sit around like the furniture.

Caldwell isn't interesting at all - another example of a wasted actor. Picardo managed to elevate Woolsey from the standard pin-head bureaucrat mold so beloved of Stargate writers and he was rewarded by unusually decent writing, at least some of the time. Another victim of Stargate, poor Connor Trinneer, got a total of one good episode before being relegated to dumbass bwahaha land.

All those good actors being given substandard material shows that the problem is systemic. What really needs to happen is that the writers and producers get the boot and get replaced by people who can do something with their casts, which include some good actors (and bad ones as well).

SG:U is going to fall into the same depressing pattern. The older actors are mostly known, and good. Some of the younger ones may be good as well. But unless the writing suddenly makes stunning improvements, nobody is going to get any decent material as per usual.

Re: Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Unive

^I've seen quite a bit of Farscape. I must have somehow missed his "amazing" episodes. Oh well. All I saw was "wackiness" and people shouting at each other a lot.

Re: Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Unive

I say Major Lorne. Give him some "meat" & a backstory.

yes yes yes.. all good choices. Browder in particular would be great.

Re: Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Unive

Why stick with Tau'ri?

One could have an undercover Tok'ra stashed away with the crew - it's not like the SGC would be the only ones interested in exploring Ancient technologies.

Indeed, it could have been really interesting to have someone like Todd, or another Wraith, brought to Destiny alongside the human expedition. Would his or her potential insights be worth the price one might need to pay to keep the Wraith adequately fed?

Indeed, what if one or more of the species the crew encounters finds themselves to have more in common with the Wraith than with the eminently consumable humans?

I think alien's would be off limit's within the main cast. I think there wanting the entire main group to be humans, just like on Battlestar Galatica" with the wierd aliens they meet, filling the role of the cylons.
Just a theory but I think it might be cheesy or to sci-fi if they had another Tea'c or Ronan type as a series regular. I noticed that all the orginal Stargate character's are making a cameo, or guest spot in the show except for Tea'c and Hammond for a completely different reason of course. Having everyone their but Tea'c i think is done on purpose, because they feel that Tea'c wouldn't make a good fit with the tone of the show.

Re: Which Stargateverse character would work well as regular on "Unive

Well, arguably the equivalent skin-job role could be filled quite well by a Tok'ra or two.

(Plus, if actors come and go, all you need is to have a new host for the Tok'ra symbiote and you're away.)
