Granted, I haven't seen the new BSG, yet, but from this list, my vote goes to Blake's 7, no contest.

I went for Blake's 7 because though it had low production values, it had IMO the most interesting characters of any of the shows mentioned.

Babylon 5 came a close second.

Farscape, with Battlestar Galactica (2004) a close second. But I'll leave it to Kegg to proselytize.

I voted for nuBSG, although it's actually a tie for me between it, Babylon 5, and Firefly. I also liked Andromeda and Farscape, although I haven't seen either in their entirety.

Farscape, closely followed by Moore's BSG. Other favorites would have to include Firefly and Stargate SG-1, which is not listed but one of its spin-offs is.

I've decided not to include the first two Stargate shows in the list, because they take place mostly on alien planets, so they cannot really be labeled as space based shows.

I voted for Crusade, but I really like B5 as well.

After watching Crusade, I really wonder what would have become of that show. The stuff with the black uniforms was getting really interesting. The stuff with the bell-hops, not so much.

One of the things to hope for this year is that JMS will put out the Crusade script books. When asked a while back, he said that he'd include what his plans were for the series.

Voted for B5. Had Firefly lasted longer it might have taken my vote.

I think an exception to the rules should be made for SeaQuest, sure it wasn't a space show, but it is scifi-ship-based and very similar to all the rest.

Babylon 5.

Excellent music.

Except for "The Gathering" (non-special edition version), "A Call to Arms", and "Crusade". ;)

It would be nice if the original version of The Gathering were available. I've been hearing about this "different music" for years, and in fact saw the movie when it first aired back in 1993, but at that time, considered it a DS9 knock-off, and had no idea it would become the second best space show out there, so I don't remember much about the original version.

Firefly, hands down.

Best launch, best chemistry, best writing of the bunch; its only problem in competing with the likes of B5, nuBSG and Farscape is that they were all allowed to continue to develop. Quantity over quality, IMHO, not that any of them were bad shows - I just would pick any episode of Firefly over any episode I've seen of any of the others.

I haven't checked it out myself but I understand that the version of "The Gathering" on at least some of the streaming sites is the original. Try Hulu or Netflix?

Here it is:
The Gathering (with score by Stewart Copeland).

I still prefer the reissued version from TNT, with score by Christopher Franke (who scored the rest of the series). However, it's nice to have the original to enjoy and compare.

Given the treatment Warner Bros. has given the franchise, I doubt it. I'm surprised it is even being streamed online.

From this list I would have to go with Blake's 7 with B5 like a 1a.
nuBSG and Firefly tied as utter trash.

Can some of you folks tell me again, what you like about Star Trek ?
