Which DS9 characters could have worked in Voyager?

I think there's often talk about TNG to DS9 and TNG to VOY but what DS9 characters do you think would have worked in Voyager?

What chemistry would they have had and who would they have sparked with (for better or worse).

Forget logistics of HOW (unless you want to think up a story) just more about who. Main character or otherwise.

My question first is, do the DS9 characters get to magically bring their breadth of material with them? Or do they get sidelined and sanded down like much of the VOY cast?

Easy Fits
O'Brien & Family. The Chief would be a perfect fit. Keiko can be in Hydroponics. Molly can take Naomi's role or be her partner in crime.

Jadzia Dax. Nothing has to change.

Bashir. See above.

Things would have to be changed
Sisko constantly fighting the Borg would give him constant PTSD because of Wolf 359.

Kira would be a Maquis instead of part of the Bajoran Provisional Government. Not a drastic change, but it isn't nothing.

Wouldn't Fit
Odo's neither Starfleet nor Maquis. And Janeway would never give him the kind of latitude Sisko does.

Quark wouldn't last one episode before Janeway would've kicked him out.

Jake's too Normal Civilian for VOY.

Leaving Out
Worf's really a TNG Character, so including him feels like cheating. Plus he has to be in the Alpha Quadrant for the TNG Movies.

Honestly, Bashir would have worked really well because that far away from Starfleet...
He could have admitted his genetic engineering real soon and be a brilliant asset to the crew. I'm pretty sure Janeway would have had issues at first, being very Starfleet, but also realize she has a brilliant doctor who can also be helpful in many situations.

Plus.... Season 4 and onward Bashir plus The Doctor.... Yeah.... :D

Not as shipping. Just amazing character interaction.

What about Dukat starting out as a Bajoran......
I think this in particular could have worked so well.

His constant interfering with Janeway's decision making, her getting annoyed with him, a little spark like she had with Q...

The timing unfortunately doesn't work out, but I think Cadet Nog would've been a huge upgrade over Kes, Neelix and Kim.

Nog was plenty interesting. By Seasons 5-7, I was more interested in Nog's storyline than Jake's. With how (not) often Cirroc Lofton showed up by the end, I think it should've been Aaron Eisenberg in the Opening Credits, not Cirroc Lofton.

Not a knock on Cirroc Lofton, but Jake's already limited involvement decreased even more while Nog's was on the rise from Season 5 onward.

For as lauded as the writing on DS9 is they struggled with Jake once the war really kicked off, with Nog acting as Sisko's surrogate Starfleet son. They were trying to do something different and have a civilian point of view but the war story they were telling just did not work. Which is unfortunate for the Jake character. Jake could have taken Nog's role and in this one case having such a large secondary cast was a detriment.

One of DS9's strengths though, was that it didn't matter too much if someone got sidelined for a bit because there were plenty of interesting characters to take up space. Jake might not have had much to do in the last two seasons, but he was there and he was not forced into stories like certain other kid characters. ;)

I wouldn't really call a 19 or 20-year-old a "kid" anymore, but good point.

In terms of Jakes it's much like TNG and VOY I guess that they find it hard to write human characters. It's why Data, Seven, The Holodec get so much time. DS9 was better at human writing, and Jake was always a bit disconnected from the main story... but all the writers found it hard to just write for normal people being normal. See also Keiko.

On an unrelated not, hear hear... I was very hot for season six/seven Jake and whenever I say I'm hot for Jake I feel obligated to say "in season six and seven."
