Guinan on DS9?

What plausible reason would Guinan have for being on DS9, unless the Enterprise was docked there for some reason?

I remember Guinan was announced as being one of the characters to appear on DS9 when it first premiered but it was confirmed by producers that Whoopi's schedule was too busy.

Depends how you define "plausible". A bunch of other TNG characters turned up in the first season for one reason or another.

I presume Guinan can leave the Enterprise for a period, just like everyone else does. She is a curious traveller who may conceivably want to see the famous wormhole. It draws visitors from across the quadrant, so why not her?

She's not even seen during TNG Season 7, so popping up on the station for Rivals would have been no continuity issue.

we know she travels widely, even if she does set up shop somewhere for a few decades at a time.
and after Generations it's not like she could tend Ten Forward anymore

The other character I remember being rumored to make an appearance on the show in the early going was Scotty. And I was always a little disappointed that didn't happen. He could have been an occasional barfly at Quark's the first few seasons.

And another one was Sito Jaxa. Which turned out to be an accurate rumor, as they really did go through some movements to bring her back.

Much as I liked her in Lower Decks, I'm glad they ultimately let her keep her poignant death.

According to the Writers' Guide, one of Guinan's sons was to have been incarcerated there. The concept was rejigged to become the episode, "Rivals", with an unrelated El-Aurian.

Oh yes, I was aware of that. I’m guessing that after all the rewrites, it wasn’t necessary for the character to be Guinan’s son anymore. As a matter of fact, other than the dialogue stating Martus was an El-Aurian, he could have just been a human for all that matter.

That would have been so perfect. O'Brien pissed & moaned about the technology on the station, imagine him off duty and Scotty talking to him about screwed up technology...

They Call Me Mr. Scott: "Laddy, let me tell you -- I'm Starfleet and I got a bloody Enterprise once that looked like it was put together by monkeys..."

I remember having a conversation with my comic shop dealer at the time about the very thing. :)

I guess the thing with Doohan would have been his health and his availability. AIUI, he lived in Washington state from the 80s onward, and while he was an active convention goer for many years, going to California for work is a very different thing in one's 70s. So as I think about it, I wonder if a Scotty appearance was floated past Doohan, he thought about it, and said, "Nah."

I think they were good with the road they travelled. I'd rather there be room for the characters to breath than to bring in stunt casting. I was honestly never all that interested with Worf being on the show.

Except he has the mysterious powers of "listening".

If Scotty had appeared on 'early DS9' then it would have been within a year or so of filming Relics.

I think DS9 used Worf well, better than TNG, but I wouldn't want them to be taking great numbers of other characters.
