Where did Nero / the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

Re: Where did the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

Maybe Nero brought his crew to Rura Penthe to secretly set down for years. Maybe he stole parts of rura penthe to use on his damaged ship...

The key would be, he'd have to hide the NARADA from anyone and everyone. So I must assume he had some kind of cloaking capability that enabled the Narada to give off no detection signatures whatsoever.

Once he knew he was ready, he decided to escape the prison, and decloak the Narada from near a moon on the other side of rura penthe. Once decloaked a klingon armada appeared to whip it's ass, and ended up getting obliterated not knowing how capable the Narada was.

Also of note, lets face it, if a warp core explodes into the insides of a vessel, it's obviously going to set the ship back for many years to make repairs.

Something others don't realize regarding how 6 starfleet ships 25 years later got obliterated instantaneously by the Narada over Vulcan. Pretty simple. Nero was informed they were about to drop out of warp, those ships had no clue there was some mammoth borg like vessel over the planet, so Nero probably targeted them immediately as they dropped out of warp with a full spread. With no sheilds up, and not to mention having no idea they were entering a trap, that would no doubt cause maximum shock value.

Whereas the Kelvin stood a chance because it had shields up, and was doing everything in it's power to avoid being destroyed. Some of it is a little bit of a stretch, and thats when I remind myself it's just a movie and all for the sake of providing maximum drama for the characters involved. Nothing is going to be perfect folks.

Also, the fact Orci and Kurtzman are actually fielding questions from fans on why this did this, or why was this like that is almost unheard of. I don't EVER remember any Star Trek writer from the movies worried that much about what fans thought, let alone enough to take questions and give thoughtful answers. I know Braga and Moore sure as hell would never do that given their massive egos.

So people who are naysayers need to look at the big picture and realize Star Trek finally has some producers and writers that give a damn for a change.

Nuff said.

Re: Where did the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

Equalization of a ten-dimensional collapsing wave function equation, allowing for variable subspace field densities and the relativistic frame dragging typical of Kerr ringwarp singularities.
I beg to differ, my esteemed colleague, but you forgot to account for spacial inversion factor as clearly define in the second revision of Thassan's dimensional expansion calculations for the methobolic alignment of quantum particules in the current spectrum. Pfff! That's like so time travel for dummies...

Re: Where did the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

Personally, I like the relativistic speed scenario. The Narada would have traveled 25 years to a nearby Klingon planet where they fought their way through 47 Klingon ships to get needed resources to repair their warp drive.
There are a few questions that raises as well, such as the convenient timing of Spock arriving right then, but I think it's good enough.

Re: Where did the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

They really needs to be explained in the DVD/Blu-Ray.

And likely will, because J.J. knows many if not most fans realized the Klingon scenes were cut from the theatrical print of the film. He'll put most or even all of that back into the DVD release.

So what was Nero up too for 25 years???

Seen the movie twice now, and absolutely LOVED IT!

But I got to wondering what Nero did for 25 years while waiting for Spock-Prime to arrive?

Was this covered in the novelization?

Considering Kirk knows about the Romulans, I am assuming Nero was probably wandering around the Alpha/Beta quadrants making trouble, mucking up the timeline even further.

Any thoughts?

Re: So what was Nero up too for 25 years???

He was in KLINGON prision. Damn J.J. editing all the GOOD stuff out!:D

Re: So what was Nero up too for 25 years???

There was a whole sub-plot cut out where the collision with the Kelvin damaged the Narada so badly that the Klingons were easily able to capture the crew. Nero and his band of Merrymen were trapped on the Klingon prison planet mentioned in the movie for 25 years before busting the coop. Thus, the reason for Nero's mysteriously mutilated ear and his "bite mark" scar on his head. Apparently, they cut out about 10 minutes worth of "what they were doing for 25 years" material.

read the book.

Re: So what was Nero up too for 25 years???

Had that sub-plot been left in the movie, it would taken more money at the box office.

I love how you said ''his band of Merrymen'' from what I saw, they were anything, BUT merry!

Also the line "The wait is over...." was cut.

Did they fix his ship and park it in orbit? Awfully considerate, those Klingons.

They didn't have to fix it. It regenerated by itself like all good Borg tech based ships.

If that's actually serious, maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to cut that out.

Re: So what was Nero up too for 25 years???

And if they had left the prison scenes in, there would be fifteen threads demanding to know why the Klingons didn't reverse engineer the Narada, take the Narada apart when it started regenerating, etc.

That's the problem with all these demands for more detail. Every answer produces five more questions.

It was in the Countdown comics.
That the Narada was a simple mining vessel retrofitted at some point after Romulus' destruction with experimental Romulan-Borg adapted technology.
Therefore it more or less had the regenerating abilities of any Borg cube.

It would have taken too long and as someone has said, cost at the boxoffice as a result. I as a fan would like the 10 minutes in the DVD. I mean it seemed nuts that Nero had such a powerful machine for 25 years without using it to annihilate the Federation. Then again ST was so fast that I didn't wonder much about those 25 years until after the movie ended. The movie was probably just more streamlined without it.

And as we can see it didn't' hurt the box office returns not to know what Nero was up to.
