Where did Nero / the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

Re: Where did the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

I'm glad they deleted those scenes and left it mysterious; as others have said, the Klingons would have reverse engineered the Narada in that time. The only way it might have made sense (I'm not saying they did this, just speculating) would be if:

1) The Narada limped away to some concealed location;
2) Nero and members of his crew went out looking for parts, and were discovered by the Klingons;
3) Nero realizes that breaking out then will only mean they have to fight the Klingons for years, so...
4) Before they are captured, he orders the Narada to sit tight and only break him out when Spock is due to show up.
5) two decades later, the now fully-repaired Narada detects the anomoly, and attacks Rura Penthe, while Nero and his men stage a breakout from within.

But yeah, sometimes writers are better off not explaining certain things - the more information you provide, the more you risk exposing plot holes.

Re: Where did the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

I'm glad they cut it.What the Narada did for 25 years really is irrelevant to the meaning of the movie-Nero was pissed before the whole black hole problem came up,and I believe the combination of long Romulan lifespans + the most advanced ship in the galaxy and foreknowledge of their present would allow them to survive 25 years easily enough.They'd have databanks on the history of the Federation ,so they'd know exactly where to and where NOT to be to avoid detection,seek food,retrieve parts,etc.

Re: Where did the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

So long as most or all of the cut stuff ends up on the DVD in a few months I don't really care so much anymore. I just didn't like how BK and other companies promoted Trek with Klingons and then they didn't show up in the movie except for the Kobayashi Maru computer simulation.

^
Especially with all the cross promotions for the film showing Klingons(BK being the biggest example). Yet what did we get? Simulated Klingon cruisers in a training scenario.

This is true, I thought about it the last King on commercial I saw...

But didn't you notice a shitload more of spongebob i like square ass commercials then for Trek? I've seen that king on commercial maybe 3 times total.

Re: Where did the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

I understand why the Klingon prison subplot was cut, but why couldn't they have explained it by saying that the collision with the Kelvin broke the Narada's warp drive, and they'd been bopping around at relativistic speeds ever since, so they only experienced a few months while the rest of the universe experienced 25 years?
This is the best idea for an explanation I have heard yet.

Re: Where did the Narada go for 25 years? (spoilers)

What Nero should have done was take the Narada back to Romulus, have their scientists & engineers reverse engineer it and add those technologies to the Romulan fleet (which was lagging behind both the Federation & Klingons at the time). They would have been unstoppable! The Romulans always despised the Federation for hemming them in and curbing their ability to expand their empire. Now they could do it whether the Federation liked it or not.

Also, I think not to complicate things with the Ridges issue.

What was Nero doing for 25 years?

Did I miss something? does the movie mention what was Nero doing for 25 years? With a ship like that he could have taken over the empire and save it from destruction

Re: What was Nero doing for 25 years?

He stabbed a guy with a trident, dude.

He had to lay low - cops were after him like ants, man!

Re: What was Nero doing for 25 years?

He was in a Klingon prison (Rura Penthe). Remember that bit about 47 Klingon ships being destroyed? That was Nero escaping.

He still would had to wait for Spock to arrive with the red matter in order to do that, but I did note in a different thread that he certainly could have done that instead of trying to destroy the federation then.

It is mentioned that he ended up on Rura Penthe for a while, not sure how or how long nor how he would have escape. Which does bring another continuity debate. Didn't we say in Undiscovered Country that nobody ever escaped from there or is it that the Klingon are to proud to admit it? ;)

Re: What was Nero doing for 25 years?

You missed the countless topics on this subject it seems.

so the empire left the ship in orbit around Rura Penthe for 25 years instead of taking it apart at some research facility? :lol:

Re: What was Nero doing for 25 years?

Apparently Nero was imprisoned by Klingons for many years after arriving in the past. You can see several scenes of Nero fighting two guards in one of the trailers. Hopefully those deleted scenes will be on the dvd.
