When does DS9 get good? (No spoilers please)

no, really? Buddy Ive seen Deep Space Nine before a decade ago.

Its my 3rd time rewatching it on Netlix recently. Just saying that the frikkin show really gets dark with war and death during Seasons 4 to the last season.

I thought the show started good and pretty much maintained that level (I would say maybe some mild temporary decrease in season 4 and/or 5), if you just don't like the characters and aren't interested in the Bajorans there's not that much change or improvement the series ever does though Sisko's character, some of the cast interactions and overall tone does change, and some consider it improvement, in season 4-5, it does gradually become a lot less TNG-ish by season 4.

In my opinion, DS9 got good by season 2, at least good enough, if still very uneven. It became really great and found its own pace from season 3 onwards though.

That said, for all its faults, DS9's season 1 is still better than the respective first seasons of TNG, Voyager and Enterprise.

One must remember that DS9 had a stronger starting point than TNG. DS9 could use TNG as their guide, TNG didn't have another running series for help. TNG helped all the series after it.

I started my wife on Season 2 after showing her the pilot.

Not a bad idea but there are several season 1 episodes that I consider worth watching outside of the pilot, namely Past Prologue, A Man Alone, Dax, The Nagus, Vortex, Progress, The Forsaken, Dramatis Personae, Duet (one of DS9's best episodes) and In The Hands of the Prophets.

Even though not all those episodes are great, I believe they are an essential starting point that allow the viewer to witness the evolution of each character: Past Prologue is a proper introduction to Kira's character, A Man Alone to Odo, The Nagus to Quark, Dax to Jadzia etc. Skipping them would make their character development less compelling and meaningful imo.
