As opposed to TNG, with one of the regular stars being a therapist?
As always, I struggle to see this as a bad thing. I'm biased to the extreme but this one drives me nuts that somehow people can't work through emotions or mental health in the workplace. I would hope, someday, the reticence of emotional expression will ease but it seems still like when I was younger. Finally, the show seems to be taking a direction toward prioritizing the foregrounding of therapy culture and issues relating to mental health. This

In twenty words or less tell me what your problem is.Rayner as a therapist? THAT I'd love to see.
Captain Rayner. What a guy.![]()
Oddly enough, yes! Also in TNG the ship didn’t have an anxiety attack at a crucial moment. I like DSC, but this is a big weakness. Also, “b-but TNG!” Is not a real response….Troi was kind of a bland character and a pretty bad therapist sometimes but at least it made sense for her to be doing therapy shit…after all, that’s her job. On DSC everyone is a therapist: the captain. The XO (well not this current one, but Saru). The CMO. The chief engineer. Whatever Tilly is. The goddamn head of the super secret spy group. It’s like you told an AI every annoying gen Z tik tok mental health trope and told it to make a Star Trek show.
There's different levels of critical. If you are forcing yourself to get through each and every episode, feel negative emotions afterwards, and end up letting it live rent free in your head a year later, it's probably not a good idea.So...thoss who are critical should stop watching a show?

I tend to like season 3 as the best of the bunch, since it actually attempts to do something boldly different, finding out about the Emerald Chain and what's left of the Federation was interesting, and Osyraa makes for an intriguing villain since she's not two-dimensional. She actually does something that I thought was really smart, which was sue for peace.Interestingly, I think season 2 is the second worst in the franchise, behind only PICARD season 2. And I absolutely love SNW.
Season 1 was just a disaster, but it did at least bring STAR TREK back to tv, so I give it credit there. (Pretty much the same feelings I have for STAR TREK '09.)
I agree that season 4 dragged too much, but at least it was the first (and so far, only season) to stick the landing. Season 3 flowed a bit better overall than season 4, but the Burn's cause really destroyed the ending.
So far, season 5 is better than either 3 or 4 at the moment... it's feeling like a slight slump, but it is nowhere near as bad as season 4's slump.
I have a feeling you are right... that season 5 will be looked at as the best season. (Still have 5 more episodes to go, so I hope they don't find a way to screw it up.)
Sorry and this probably get me an infraction but it needs to be said.
I can buy him as a trans man. Which is what he is.Sorry and this probably get me an infraction but it needs to be said.
Casting the guy who plays Grey as a womans boyfriend when sorry, he'd very clearly rather be spending time with Stamets or Culbar to the point it's distracting, RTD the writer of Doctor Who and a gay icon in the UK said only gay actors should play gay people for authenticity (Russell T Davies: Only gay actors should play gay characters (yahoo.com)) - I thought that was nonsense till I saw Grey in Discovery since that I honestly think he has a point, it takes you out of the moment when the actor just isn't believable as what they're supposed to be.
I'm looking at your avatar, and I have to ask: How's Alien in 4K?The actor is trans, I don't think the character is (I could be wrong I tended to switch off when they were on).

Boy, Star Trek always gets it wrong.Nothing wrong a mental health professional being on the ship. Even the 1701 had them, Also nothing wrong with friends talking to friends about their problems. Maybe not in the middle of a crisis, though.![]()
Ok, but people can still discuss why they feel meh. Hell, reading some of the episode reviews by posters here makes me go, "wow, I don't think they really like it but they rate it a 7 or 8.If you see it as a very mixed bag, but somewhat entertaining and meh, then maybe keep going. I ~know~ I'm highly unlikely to like SNW season 2 or DISCOVERY seasons 3/4. If I ever do view them, it'll be years later.
I've never heard the flashback one before. Was that something Harberts / Berg / Goldsman were considering after Bryan Fuller was pushed out?For example, I believe the pilot episode is made up of scenes which were never intended to exist together as the premiere story of the series. All of the backstory of the Battle of the Binary Stars was supposed to be used as flashback during the season to explain Burnham's situation, and add depth to the choices she would make in other episodes. Bryan Fuller's original re-interpretation of the Mirror Universe was not as just a place with evil-goateed versions of the characters, but as a sort of alt-universe where people had made horrible choices, and that would connect thematically to Burnham's bad choice during the the Battle of the Binary Stars.
The real question is how is Aliens in 4K? Rumor has it they just upconverted the Blu-ray master and then DNRed it to death. And the HDR doesn't even go beyond the range of SDR...I'm looking at your avatar, and I have to ask: How's Alien in 4K?
I mean, that's the approach I take to STLD. And hell, VGR. But with something like SNW, even taking down the notes and writing out all the problems I would have with a particular episode could take hours and hours. I have better things to do with my time. Criticizing it just times out.Ok, but people can still discuss why they feel meh.
