When are we shown the Alpha Jem'Hadar?

In season seven, there is a variety of Jem'Hadar with a heavier scaled brow ridge, a large crest on the brow and bridge of the nose, that wasn't seen on any Jem'Hadar prior to about mid-season six. I assumed this variety of the Jem'Hadar makeup was supposed to signify an Alpha, replacing the Gammas throughout the final season as they grow more numerous. :)

I'm not 100% sure that the crest is limited to Alphas- I thought I'd seen them on others...

But as mentioned, we started to see them in 1 Little Ship, and the Vorta claimed the Alphas would begin to supplant the old guard-- but after their failure in that episode (since the Vorta in that ep. (Vorta are also often the scientists) were skeptical of the new race) who knows what happened?

In the ep. that intro'd them, there were obvious physical differences, but I don't think that was maintained throughout the series.

I think that this is an example of an Gamma Quadrant Jem'Hadar....

The Alphas have more of a crest on their upper noses and lower foreheads. We first saw this difference in "One Little Ship" and the crest gradually became larger and larger until "What You Leave Behind."

Anyone know what episodes they're shown in and talk with the Gamma Jem'Hadar?

I'd always assumed that this story idea was tossed out the window after "One Little Ship" - I always cringe a bit when watching that episode actually, because I now know that the whole Alpha-Gamma rivalry is dropped and never heard from again.

If the make-up is different, then I never noticed, and I certainly never assumed it had anything to do with the Alphas and Gammas.

Recently re-watching DS9, I noticed the "Ridged" Jem'Hadar also which do seem to crop up (at least notably) after "One Little Ship". Perhaps the ridge on Alphas had something to do with them being bred to fight Klingons...maybe some sort of intimidation factor.

Or maybe headbutts from klingon foreheads were more dangerous to Jem'Hadar than they had anticipated. So the Dominion revised their design to include those crests, so that Jem'Hadar would be able withstand or even break through klingon foreheads.

But we don't know that he's an Alpha for sure. We do know that this guy is an Alpha and he has no no weird ridge-y-ness. Link

Actually, he does. It's not as pronounced as Admiral Shran's Alpha example, but there is a triangular piece on his forehead that isn't there on the Gamma example.

That doesn't really prove much, save that the make-up department put in a lot of hard work. There has always been a lot of subtle variation among indivual Jem'Hadars' make-up.

I like the theory about the Alphas being bred with fighting Klingons in mind! The crest sure would make a Klingon think twice before headbutting him! lol
