What's the worst canon decision in the history of Trek?

I’m also not much of a fan of time crystals. They’re well within the realm of Trek-diculousness but I still don’t like them. They are magical tomfoolery, although I wouldn’t say they’re anything particularly special in their magical powers when it comes to Trek.

I really hope there’s some more science-based creativity in the storylines of SNW.

Wait so which era of Trek isn't stupid? The slingshot was originally from TOS in the 60's.
So you’re okay with Trek being stupid, got it. Trek was leaps and bounds ahead of the contemporary dreck of its era. That’s a good thing. I’m saying that repeating TOS today is a bad thing. And I’d really like it if fans were less combative when in another thread they’d likely say the same. Or should we reject female captains in Trek too?

Hell, throw that up on my list as well. I tend to focus more on contemporary sins than those from the past, but that’s up there too.

Speaking of Vic Fontaine: "Bada Bing Bada Bang" is completely stupid. I know it's supposed to be a "lighthearted" episode but it makes no sense. At some point one of the characters, I think it could be Nog, says that whatever they do it must be period-specific so if they want to kill someone, for example, it must be with a weapon that was invented back then. I'll say fine. Replicate or whatever a few machine guns, tell Vic to barricade himself in his room, and then go full Picard on the bad guys!! After all the safeties are still on, right? So the only ones that can be killed are the holograms. I mean once Franky eyes and his muscle guy are killed the lounge is restored, right? Besides, that's exactly how the story was concluded, they were taken out and shot. So instead they go through this byzantine plan that has very few chances of success.... Well, most episodes of that kind are that way, with obvious unexplored avenues.

Time crystals are ridiculous.

Everyone knows you just have to fly around the sun really fast and you’ll be transported exactly when and where you want.

Daniels can make a time communicator with a twenty-second-century communicator and a dirty copper ladle!!

I find it to be fair game if it happened in Trek's history.

Yeah, I think that’s fair. If it’s established in canon then it’s on the table. That said, it doesn’t make it any less silly as a concept. I’m just glad Pike made the story interesting and compelling overall.

I think "The Chase" is an OK episode when it comes to its entertaining value but is terrible in its implications. The idea that evolution is not based on random mutations followed by natural selection... is.... revolting and 100 percent anti-scientific.

I feel the same way about the Mirror Universe. Is it a fundamentally silly concept? Yes, but the characters and drama make it worth it. Star Trek is not strict science, nor has it tried to be as the franchise ages. I'm not saying people should blindly accept it, but I find the line of silliness to be thin for what is acceptable in this franchise.

Dilithium is a glorified semiconductor. The science surrounding warp is based in reality
What science is that? Does it work with out the fictional exotic matter?

Magic time crystals that act like crystal balls tell you where the modern educational system and general scientific literacy of the public lies.
One has little to do with the other. Time crystals like warp crystals are just a plot device in a piece of fiction. Neither is a reflection of current or past levels of education or scientific literacy.

. I think the slingshot around a sun is also ridiculous. But that was a comedy from the 80’s riffing on the 60’s. Television was stupider then.
Was it though? There were quite a few well written intelligent programs back then. And there are some mind numbingly stupid shows on the air right now

So you’re okay with Trek being stupid, got it. Trek was leaps and bounds ahead of the contemporary dreck of its era.
Nah it had it's share of dreck and great. It's always been a mixed bag.

Yes, it's a concept that belongs in fairytales, not in so-called sci-fi.

The fictional exotic matter was one component of a reality-based technology and understanding of the universe. What’s the alternative? That Trek should fully develop FTL? Time crystals are “a wizard did it.”

I hope you’re right, but the complete incompetence from both government and the public during the pandemic, among other factors, make me wonder.

The exceptions prove the rule. A handful of prestige shows then don’t match the plethora of today. There’s a lot more trash today as well, but that’s due to the overall greater amount of new entertainment, not a reflection of the general trend.

Nah it had it's share of dreck and great. It's always been a mixed bag.

Less dreck makes for a better bag. And, AGAIN, you’re focusing on comparison, Trek vs. Modern Trek (DSC), fighting a fan war I don’t care about.
