What'll they do when your dead?

That's a worthwhile goal, but I would be just a wee bit creeped out knowing that my body would be sitting around in a lab being poked and prodded by med students.
You'd be dead, what does it matter? It's no less creepy than being destroyed by a raging inferno or buried 6 feet under.

I do not currently have a will, but I would like to be buried. How I get to be buried and what kind of service would be had, I'd just like something that comforts my family.

It does matter. I want to know that my body will be properly taken care of after I die.

And as I said, I do consider medical research to be a fine goal, but I don't think I could donate *my* body to it - it just makes me a bit uncomfortable, the thought of being sprawled in a lab with med students doing who knows what to it. And I do wonder what they do with the bodies after they're done. Does the family get the body back? Can they have a proper funeral?

Bodies donated to medical schools are treated properly and disposed of properly. I've been to doctor's appointments where the doctor was being shadowed by an Intern and asked if I was comfortable with the trainee accompanying him. My response? "Sure, they have to learn some time and every bit helps." In both instances, I could see the Intern loosen up and the ego boosted.

I wouldn't mind donating my body to a medical school, because if you truly believe there is a soul there, then won't it be gone by the time the school receives the body?

Disposed of how, exactly? Can the family get the body back if they want to hold their own funeral? If not, what does the hospital (or whatever organization) do with the body?

Why do you think hospitals catch such flak for having bad meatloaf :shifty:

"We have a new special in the cafeteria today. It's called Soylent Green." :guffaw:

I don't currently have a will, but I made clear to my family that I want all useful parts donated, the rest cremated and the ashes scattered wherever they find comforting. I hope they can arrange a secular ceremony, but it's actually kinda difficult in Italy: the Church tends to come to the dead like vultures. As for a tangible memorial, I would like to have a statue of myself striking a triumphant pose than those sad and depressing tombs.

Probably cremated or donated to a medical school. They can string my body up in a haunted house or turn me into Soylent Green for all I care. Personally, I'd rather my corpse serve some productive purpose rather than take up space in the ground.

Yes I do have a will, I'll be cremated, there will be a proper funeral and then my ashes will be interned in a grave along with my wife either before or after me.

I haven't yet picked the grave or anything, I'm only 33 so I hope it isn't going to happen any time soon!

People will remember me and cry.

And I'll probably be buried somewhere. Hopefully the Moon. :bolian:

If there's anything useful to donate, I hope they will take anything that will help out someone else.

After that, I'd like to be buried. One of these days, I'm going to have to put that in writing.

I want to be stuffed and mounted on the roof of my house, sitting in my favorite recliner. Completely naked so I offend as many passersby as possible.

For some reason, every time I tell people this, they laugh as though I'm joking. I'm not. It's in my will.

Hopefully phasers will be around so my remains can be disintegrated.

More likely my carcass will be tossed in a mass grave with other dissidents and covered with dirt by a bulldozer.

I once looked into what happens if I donate my body to science. I only bothered ti find out what happens in Australis not in the USA.

1) The body cannot be donated if there has been an autopsy
2) The body cannot be donated if organs have been moved for organ transplants.
3) The body has to be whole i.e no ampuations
4) Bodies that are too obese or too thin are not accepted. This is because the bodies that are donated have to be embalm and these two groups of people do not emblam well. The need to emblam is the same reason as to why autopsied people cannot be donated.
The major blood vessels have been severed and the person cannot be embalmed.
5) There are some diseases that rules out donation.

The bodies are usually returned to the families after they have been used usually with all organs unless the organs have specifically been donated with the agreement they can be retained kept once the body is to be returned, For example in Australia it is possible to donate one's brain.

This topic turns up every now and then, and my answer stays the same.

I want a giant mausoleum with sexy cryptstalker guards.

As to what will actually happen, I suspect a classic, tasteful burial somewhere leafy & peaceful and a decent tombstone. I'll work on a good epitaph for them to use; haven't thought of one yet. Maybe something from Bertrand Russell though I'd prefer to come up with something original. A small group of mourners in black, perhaps the odd tear if I'm lucky. I'll leave some instructions for the details so it's all done right.
