One last thing about Sulu before putting that whole thing to rest. According to Wikipedia, "Takei's sexuality had been an open secret among Star Trek fans since the 1970s." The fans probably learned of this through meeting him first hand, well after the series ended. Remember, most gays in the 1960's would not be "out of the closet" for fear of hurting their careers. Given how minor Takei's part was on TOS, and him being at the very early stage of his acting career, I highly doubt he let onto anyone about his sexual preferences... certainly not to the production or writing staff. Thus, I don't think it makes any sense whatsoever to try insinuating anything like this, that there was anything intentionally suggestive about him in the episodes. It just becomes a dead-end exercise in revisionism, as Warped9 pointed out.
