What sort of internet speeds are we getting these days?

^^

Are the two of you still on dial-up? Those are atrocious numbers. I don't know how I'd survive with such things.

It's all geography. I remember in New Jersey, one of the most densely populated states in the US I could get 8 megs. If your more than a couple of miles outside of a urban area nobody cares about you.

As for my current internet we should probably add what we all pay for that speed we're getting. I think I paid like 20 dollars last month. I could get 8 meg for like 30-ish bucks but 4 is fast enough for Netflix HD(kinda shows how much of a joke that is) so why bother.

This. Up until a couple of months ago, my 4 Mbps speed was the best one could get, because I live in a rural area. Now that Time Warner is offering internet out this way (and for the same price as the slower than dirt ISPs), the speed is gorgeous. When you had 4 Mbps, and now you've got 34 Mbps, that might as well be an entirely new internet.

Hell, going from dial up to 512k at the time felt like that:lol:

I know that feeling, too! :D

I remember when I went from dial-up to 1.5 Mbps internet, which was Roadrunner at the time. Of course, nothing compares to when I upgraded my 2400 baud modem to a 14.4K modem! That was insane!

I'm on a 40mbps service, typically get 38 (lowest I've seen so far is 24 at very peak time).

UK rural areas like mine tend to suffer lack of investment. The phone system is still largely copper wire due to being so old. Rollout of fibre optic is proceeding in cities, but out in the sticks there's little incentive for companies to invest. Luckily we do have a fairly sizeable university in Aber so the town got it. My line could support 80mbps but 40 does for me and is cheaper per month.

I'd heard from the British that Netherlands had some of the highest speed internet connections but that? What is that? Its many times faster than anything presented here so far.
ISP: Microsoft Corporation?
